ive been having this agonizing tooth ache, i tried medicine, Advil, Tylenol, etc.. Anyway, I just can't seem to stop it. Its loose, but not lose enough to to come out. (Im 11). I can't go to the dentist for reasons I won't say. What do I do? And i keep scratching the tip of my tongue because the tooth is sharp. around the bottom because i think a root must have broken. What do I do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

i finally just kept nudging the tooth, and i held onto something to squeeze when it started to hurt. An hour or 2 later It broke off, but some of the flesh of the gums held onto the tooth, so i had to leave it alone until my mouth stopped aching in agonizing pain. after all that i accidentally kept hitting the tooth with my tongue, and finally it game out it was defiantly a baby tooth, because there's a tooth thats already starting to grow in.

At 11 your parents or guardians are responsible for your well-being. Pain in a tooth can be serious. Have you talked with them?

Is this a permanent or baby tooth? If it's a baby tooth, it will come out. It may be painful because it's hanging in there by it's roots and you can encourage it to come out by wiggling it. I don't remember anyone your age having so much pain that it interrupted their play or meeting their responsibilities.

I have known adults to have that much pain and when they went to the dentist learned that they had an infection in the gum. Is your gum swollen or inflamed and perhaps just a bit warm? If so, I suggest that you talk with your parents again. If you have an infection eventually your cheek will feel warm to the touch, you'll have a fever and they will be worried and call your doctor.

If this is a permanent tooth, how did it get loose? You said that you think a root is broken and the edge is sharp. This makes me think that your tooth has been injured. If someone has hit you or knocked you down and your parents are not taking care of the injury then you should call Child Protective Services, CPS, for help. Look in the blue pages under the county government heading or call directory assistance.

If the reason you can't go to the dentist is that your parents don't have the money to pay one then they can take you to a county clinic which will charge on a sliding fee scale based on their income.

You deserve to be taken care of. I don't know what happened to your tooth but if it's a permanent tooth, from your description, I think you may loose the tooth and it'll be gone forever unless you get treatment.

In the meantime, chew a piece of gum and when all the taste is gone wrap it around the bottom of your tooth so it won't rub on your tongue. If it's a permanent tooth, do not chew on that side and don't wiggle it.

I do hope that your parents will understand and see that you get the treatment you need. If they are concerned and have looked at the tooth and in their judgment feel that it's OK and they weren't the ones who injured it, then I wouldn't be concerned. The tooth will heal. It's if they aren't concerned or caused the injury or think they can't take you to the dentist because of lack of money that I'm concerned. Help is available.

you really do need to go to the dentist. that tooth is rotten and is starting to break off. i have had that happen me and it will get worse before it gets better. and you don't want to get an infection in your gums. you really need to get to the dentist. and that rotteness will cause bad breathe.

If the tooth is chipped or something to make it sharp, the only way you can get it fixed is by going to the dentist.

Again, without going to a dentist, the only treatment would be to brush and floss regularly, make sure you get plenty of calcium, and take advil and try to be careful of your sharp tooth.

A way to avoid cutting yourself while you're asleep till you can see a dentist, though, would be to get a mouth guard, like either one that you wear for grinding teeth or even a sports one, and sleeping with that in.

But again, dental problems, once they come up, don't go away. And the longer you wait to get professional help, the worse it will get.

In addition to Marda P.'s answer, most states have public funding for children under 18 who have a low income family to get necessary care. I know that sometimes if your family is having a sudden change this can be unavailable, but they should at least look into it, if money is the problem.
If it's a fear thing, then I understand where you're coming from, I absolutely avoid dentists at all costs, too. But when it comes to tooth aches, it's hard to be too careful. If advil isn't cutting it, there's something wrong. There are scarier things than dentists, and gum disease is one of them. It can be avoided by seeing a professional, though.

When I was pregnant, no dentist would take me and I had broken two teeth because I wasn't getting enough calcium. Anyhow, I took garlic supplements (the ones in the vitamin aisle) and they worked pretty well. I guess cause garlic has antibiotic properties...but I didn't wake up every hour because of the pain. Or you can use clove oil on the spot that hurts...but it tastes icky. (but it works!)
