hi MIchelle,

Take him to a childrens dentist if you haven't already. It's probably time for a dental exam. Best to you and the little one.

if it is a canker sore you can use peroxide. Have your son rinse his mouth with a half & half mixture of hydrogen peroxide (in the brown bottle) and water. It's safe but he still shouldn't drink it, just gargle a bit every day.

If you live in Long Beach or near, there is "The Children's Clinic" http://www.thechildrensclinic.org/
Free services or low cost for those with no insurance. Please check it out. Also Long Beach Memorial Hospital has a children's Dental clinic with a sliding scale, in case he needs to see a dentist. http://www.memorialcare.org/miller/services/dentalclinic.cfm

Have you ever applied for Healthy Families or MediCal?? If you go to these clinics you should ask about it, you might even qualify and not even know it. Those services are there for our kids and no kid should be uninsure. Let me know if you have any questions. Good Luck!!!!!!!

Canker sores are painful, you can use cloreseptic spray for the pain, and try and make sure he keeps things out of his mouth. healing time is different for different people. They may have a product in the stores for canker sores now, they didn't when my kids were little, I know Tea Tree Oil will heal it, but your son will not like it. I will look for a home remedie, e-mail me back in a day or so, and i will let you knpw what i found, but in the mean time use the cloreseptic spray for the pain. J. ____@____.com

Hey Michelle!

I actually work with a great discount dental plan that would help you on the cost of dental care for your whole family. I use it for my family and love it. We save over 50% on our cleanings alone. I know I love using it for my 2 year olds dental visits, they can get so expensive! If you are interested, you are more than welcome to contact me for information or visit the website and take a look at the services we offer. www.everyonebenefits.com/jaimew or call me at ###-###-####

Michelle,

Usually canker sores won't bleed when brushing, although they do hurt and you might want to check his gums for discoloration just to be sure.
If no gum discoloration then might want to have him rinse with a mixture of warm water with sea salt or even table salt would work.I always put Orajel (extra strengh) on area first that will numb the area before you have him rinse to eliminate any burning that he would feel from the salt.but this will seal the sore so nothing further can irritate it and it will begin to heal itself.

If he has gum discoloration then you have to take him to dentist but don't worry because I didn't have insurance either a year ago and heard about UCLA's dental clinic. It is very inexpensive because they are dental students practicing on you, which sounds bad but there's no worry because they are fully staffed with Dentists and cannot do anything to your mouth until they get approval from the Dentist. And there are even more mature dentist who are watching all of this happen via camera's above you. They did a great job on my daughter when she was 5 they were so nice that she wasn't even afraid. That visit costs me $20 for check up and she had a cavity that they fixed.

Hope this helps!
All the best.
Deb

Take him to a clinic at least. He could have an abscessed tooth and if that gets into the blood stream it could have fatal consequences

L-Lysine is an OTC natural alternative used to treat canker sores. I'd google it first and make sure it is safe to give to children.

Although, I'd recommend seeing a Dr. to be sure, if he has a fever or a rash, it may be hand foot mouth. You can read about that at:

I hope you can get him some relief soon!
