Toddler Shoe Sizes

My 2 1/2 year old daughter is currently fitting into a size 5 boot comfortably. I'm sure by her birthday she will grow more. BUT, I found a better pair of winter boots for her. They're called BOGs & they will keep her foot dry & warm up to 30 degrees below & are soooo cute. But they start at size 7! Oh no. I fear that this will be awkward maneuvering for her if I did get them for use now. But I am unsure & need some advice. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My daughter wears a size 9, but I bought her size 11 Bog Boots. I just put two pairs of socks on her and she seems to do fine. I thought that buying the larger size would allow me to get at least 2 years of use out of them. So far my plan is working.

Wow. Our 22 month old is already in a 7.5 (and wide at that).

It's hard to anticipate how much their feet are going to grow (in case you're thinking that you might be able to get 2 winters out of them).

I'd have her feet checked for size at a good shoe store (like Stride Right) to see if the 7 is actually too big. Our daughter's been walking around in 6.5 shoes without any complaints, and she was measuring at least a 7 when he had her sized.

My daughter grows 2 shoe sizes a year.. she has worn sandals sized 5 whens she was 1 1/2, 7 when she wasa 2 1/2, and 9 when she was 3 1/2.

when I buy them in april may they are pretty big.. but by september they are small.

so if you want them for next year they might work... but I dont know how fast her feet grow.. I just know about my kid..

I think it will fit her in 2 years. Usually they grow a 1/2 size every 6 months.

I would not have my child wear a size boot that is 2 full sizes too big. But as others have said... maybe they run small... doubt they run 2 full sizes small. Ice and snow are already hard to walk-in. Shoes that are too big are hard to walk in as well and they cause tripping. As others also suggested... you can take the risk for buying them next year or maybe even the year after if you love them that much. If you buy them to save them and they don't fit... sell them on Ebay New and I am sure you will get a buyer albeit maybe less than you paid but you will sell them, I am sure.
So.... I say skip them or buy them for next year or the year after!

My almost 4 year old has a pair of BOG boots and we're fans. We loved them so much that I bought a pair for my husband and now friends are buying them too based on my husband's recommendations (adult friends!). They really do keep your feet warm & dry and they double as a rain boot. So my recommendation would be to buy the size 7. My son's foot measures 12.5 so he has size 13 BOGs- they fit him with room but I doubt that they will fit next year. Hope that helps.

next winter you should be able to get her into a 7 if she is in a 5 now.

I have found the # vary so much from brand to brand. I pack a thin sock & a thick sock & try boot with both & buy the one that fits best regardless of size stated. If you can't try them on & are ordering them, then I say try them & if they are too big then she will eventually grow into them.

Seeing as how winter is almost over, I would just wait and buy them for next year. You can try to estimate what size to buy her, based on how many shoe sizes she goes through in a year. And winter boots are better if they are one size bigger than their normal shoe size, in my opinion. So they can wear thick socks. I always buy my kids' winter boots at the end of the season on clearance for the next year. So I buy them big on purpose. Hope this helps!

They may be awkward for maneuvering... have her try them on and see how she does. Snow boots seem a bit easier to walk in when big. I have also found different shoe brands tend to be different sizes then others (ex: fits in a size 9 in most shoes but for a few she fits in size 8). I was told that if the toe hits the end of the shoe it is way to small if the toe is about a thumbs length away from the front it is a good size because it give them room to grow any more room then a thumbs worth the shoe is too big.

I always buy boots at the end of the winter season for the next winter season because it is such a great deal. I have figured out that at least right now she grows two sizes from winter to winter, so if you see a pattern of how her foot sizes grows that helps.
