We have family visiting including our two year old nephew who is CRAZY about Thomas the Tank Engine. I would love to find a toddler railroad experience for him if there is one close by - Allen, Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Dallas. Any leads would be greatly appreciated :-)

Not sure when your company is visiting (sounds like maybe sooner than this), but the last weekend in March and first weekend in April, they have the "Day Out with Thomas" at the Grapevine Vintage Railroad ( http://www.grapevinesteamrailroad.com/events.asp )where they have a "Thomas" engine pulling the train. We went last year with our then two year old and he loved it. There are lots of activities besides the train ride- miniature trains on display, trains for the kids to play with, get your picture made with Sir Topham Hat, etc. Even if it's not the weekend that Thomas is there, the regular train ride might be a lot of fun. Hope you have a nice visit with your family!

:-) K.

The Grapevine train I think is the Tarantula. It's a great steam engine experience. Also at Christmas they have a Polar Express ride in pajamas while the book is being read in the train car!

Hi,
I know you said close by but I took my 8 year old daughter and my 2 and 1/2 year old son years ago to the Rusk-Palestine train ride. It was an incredible experience. He is now 11 and still recalls things from it. He was also a train fanatic for years.....just another idea to consider. I believe you can google or yahoo it and it will give you details. It is an old train that travels between the two towns and has a very loud whistle. The kids love it.

Hello,
Both my boys loved Thomas and still love trains. Check out www.grapevinevintagerailroad.com They have train that goes from Grapevine to Ft. Worth. Thomas will also be coming in town in late March/early April. May not match up with when you nephew is in town, but it is around the same time every year. Maybe they can plan there visit for next year around that time. Hope this helps! G.

I second that Thomas event - we went when my son was 2 and he absolutely loved it!! And I think that Grapevine railroad station has regular train rides throughout the year.

There's always the DART rail, too. Kids love it!! If you park at Parker Road station (Plano), you can take the rail all the way down the Dallas Zoo -- and you can go through an underground tunnel when you go south that far.

Near the Fort Worth Zoo, there's a mini-train ride for kids and adults.... you buy a ticket... hop on and it loops you through the wooded park next to the zoo.

There is also the Railroad Museum in downtown Plano. I don't think they offer any rides, but he could see the trains and go inside one.

My grandson loves trains too and we took him to grapevine to see and ride on the train! We had a great time. They have also had "thomas" but I am not sure when they do that....you can check on line by googling the city of grapevine.

Have Fun!
