Toddler Proofing

I am looking for any suggestions regarding toddler proofing doors. We are moving shortly and the builder of our new home installed the lever type door handles opposed to door knobs, which look beautiful; however, I am not sure how to toddler proof them oppose to screwing an eye hook and latch onto each door. Does anyone have any unique ways of solving this issue opposed to ruining my new doors.

What can I do next?

This may sound crazy, but we did it.... We reversed the door handles on the doors we didn't want them to open. We then locked the doors and to open them we had a key hanging beside the door to insert in the grove and turn the lock from our side. I hope you can understand what we did. If not, you can e-mail me at ____@____.com this helps,

YES!! I'm sure most department stores have them, but I know for sure Wal-Mart carries a door lock that goes over the handle and will work for lever type handles. They are kinda odd shaped, I actually bought them by mistake. We have the traditional knob and they have been AWSOME to keep my 2 1/2 yr old from escaping, or getting into things he shouldn't. Look in the baby section. I hope you find them! They will save you lots of headaches!!

I believe they actually make safetly latches for these kinds of door handles. I'm pretty sure I have seen them in the stores. Check around at places like Target and Walmart, and if not there at a store like Babies R Us should probably have them.

Hey S. I have the same kind of doors the ONLY thing I have found to work is putting slip chain locks high on the outside of the doors. It's no fun having to drill into the walls on a new house but nothing a little puddy cant fix when they are old enough NOT to go into the rooms. Hope this helped.

I have tried the clever little over the handle child proof locks for doorknobs BUT my little ones figured it out the first day...I was stumped for awhile. The chain works fantastic! 1. They can't get in. and 2. If they try to go in the room you hear them and can remind them they are not allowed in there.

Put the slide lock, locks at the very top of the door. Works great. No one even notices them at the top of the door. We do becasue we know that they are there. Try even a chain lock if you do not want to go that route. We have a chain at the back door.

S.,
We have the same kind of doors, and got ours "baby proofed" with the kits we found at Babies R Us. They are around $5 each and they work perfectly. Good luck!

There are Child Proofing Products just for door handles like you will have at your new home. Search online or go to Babys-R-Us. I saw them there just a few weeks ago.
