My 21 month old is obsessed with rubbing my earlobes. He had done this since he has been able to reach them while nursing as a baby. Im just wondering if anyone else has this strange thing going on with their kiddos... Its not annoying, I know its his little comfort thing. He rubs my ears when hes sleepy,he even pushes my hair out of the way! What are your kids quirky comforts?

Heehee! I did this...well rubbed my own earlobes-long into my teens. I rarely do it anymore. ;) I kinda became known for it for a while though...DH used to tease me about it. Earlobes are so soft!
My son (10 months) loves to rub my hair.
I only wish my daughter had some kind of gentle comforter like this-she gnaws her fingers to bits for her "comfort habit". :(

I think it's sweet-he loves his mama. :)

My son, loves my armpits. He likes the stubble and 'pokey' feel.
He equally loves my husbands face, when he has stubble on it.
It is comforting for him.
Who knows why.
Some tactile sensory thing.
It causes no issues or problems for him or us.
So be it.
He will outgrow it, like most kids outgrow things.

My son, will even tell me don't shave my armpits. But of course I do. He just laughs.
He says my armpits are 'cozy' and likes the smell.
LOL

Armpits.
My son puts his hands up my armpits and rubs it. He gets SO happy doing that.
What a eccentric thing! LOL

He started doing that at about 3 years old. Who knows why. He is now 4 years old.

all the best,
Susan

I lived by a boy who did this all the way up to elementary school. He turned to his own ears when his mom wasn't around... My daughter use to play with hair... it was always funny with grandpa since he barely had any... She out grew it around 4-5...

Hehe, my sister in law had one that she'd gladly trade for earlobes! One of her twins would roll and pinch the skin on her neck. He couldn't go to sleep without doing that, it was also his comfort thing during the day.

My youngest used to rub the seam of my shirts - at the sleeve, the hem or even neckline when he was nursing. When he moved to a big boy bed with top sheet he'd rub the flat sheet seam or the seam inside the pillowcase. He finally stopped at about 5-6. The funny thing I just found out was that my grandfather did the same thing with the satin lining on the blanket his whole life!

My DD is also the ears. My ears, her ears, someone elses ears.... She's not picky. LOL! In the coldest part of the winter when we'd have to do hats & gloves to go outside she'd get in the car & then beg me to let her take them off cuz she couldn't feel her ear. The funny thing for me is that I took a quick look one day at my own baby picture and I'll be darned, I was playing with my ear too! LOL!

Mine always plays with my hair..or if he can't reach others, he plays with his own hair. It's what he does when he's sleepy and he plays and twists his hair as he drifts off to sleep...It started from when I used to nurse him..I always rubbed his head/scalp/hair while I held him...so he just associated it with comfort/relaxation I guess. He's 3 now..and he has to have his hands in his hair (or anyone's) in order to fall asleep. It's a nice self soothing thing!

My DD likes to rest a hand on my belly, skin to skin. Again, just a comfort thing, but I've had to teach her some manners about it, especially in public.

My L. guy has a thing for my "bee ba", which translates to belly button! He has put his finger in there pretty much since I stopped nursing him, and he is now a L. over 3. He loves to do it when he's sleepy or just needs comfort or sometimes still in public (he will whip up my shirt, exposing my belly to the whole of Target). Although it is occasionally uncomfortable to flash strangers (ha ha), it is so sweet to know that my L. boy is comforted by me and only me in this unique way! I imagine they all grow out of these quirks eventually, or sending him off to college will be a L. rough (hee hee)! Enjoy every second you can with your sweet pea!

My daughter used to hold my thumb while nursing. She loved thumbs for quite some time even after she was done nursing. She would come hold mine for comfort. My son used to hold his neck as a means of comfort. It was the cutest thing. He would walk around with one hand on his neck, especially when he had his pacifier in. As soon as it was in his mouth his hand went to his neck. I think he started that when he was nursing too.

My best friend had an issue with her son putting his fingers in her mouth while nursing. At first it was cute but in time it got to be a big issue the older he got that was really hard to break.
My youngest son uses his woobie (a lovey) corner by rubbing it with his finger and goes to sleep doing it. When he was real L. he would rub his nose with it but now I'll catch him doing it with his teddy bear.

My daughter stroked a particular section of my hair when she was sleepy. I had so many broken ends by my scalp from this! But I knew it was a comfort to her, it wasn't hurting me and she would grow out of it. She also had a need to count my friends moles when she would visit. It was their ritual.

I think I have you beat...haha. My 3.5 year old has been rubbing my nose for the past 9 months with the palm of his hand for comfort. Before that he never attached to anything in particular like my other children had done. He does rub the corner of a pillow or sheet to get to bed if mom's nose is not available. He does it when he is tired and ofcourse it can be quite annoying (especially when I am having a conversation or his hands are not clean...lol). It started out cute and it does keep us close...but some times I must remind him that he can't always rub mommy's nose. He'll rub others' noses' occassionaly but loves my pointy cartilage the best...so I can't complain too much!

This is about a friend of my husband's, who's daughter liked to put her finger in her nose! Especially when she was given a bottle but at any time to "soothe" herself I guess and not any "drilling", just putting the tip of her finger inside the nostril. Just a bit weird for the rest of us in the room and have a conversation with the lady whose child has a finger in her nose.

My daughter likes to rub a good soft arm. It is the inside of the forearm and it can't have any "fur" on it, or it isn't a good soft arm. She is 5 and quietly checks out other peoples soft arms.
