Hi M.
I have a 15 month old boy. He sleeps 7p-7a. He naps from about 10:30am - 12:30 or 1pm.
So he is down to one nap but it is a morning nap.
It works for us!
Good luck!
M.

My 18 month old still takes his nap in the late morning, usually around 11 until 1 or 2 pm. As there haven't been any problems with schedules, I just let him have his nap when he needs it. And on the upside, by the time 7 pm rolls around, he's tired enough to go to bed without any fuss (usually).

Hi M.,
My two year old princess takes a nap from 1-3 in the daycare she attends. At home we try to put her to sleep at the same time but she doesn't like to. With us, she naps in the morning. Lily

We read and followed "Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child" by Dr. Weissbluth to establish nap and sleep habits for both our daughters now 4 and 6. Really helped guide us through the nap transitions and night wakings.
That being said, our younger daughter did give up her nap at about 2.5 for quite time.
Good luck.

Hi M.,

My son is 21 months old and he only takes an afternoon nap. He naps from 2pm and usually for a couple of hours. When he gets up in the morning he is so well rested from sleeping that he is so full of energy there is no morning nap.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I have an 18 month old child. He still takes two naps a day. From 9:15 until 10:15 and from 1:45-3:30. I was trying to wean out the first nap but the sitter says he still seems to need it. Sometimes he will only sleep 30 minutes in the am and that makes me think that he is getting closer to just one nap a day.

Up until our son was about 20 months, he napped from about 10 am to 1 pm. Then over the course of a week, he gradually moved to an afternoon nap. It was weird. Now he's almost 3 and still sleeps from about 1 pm to 3 pm or so.

Hi M.,
Our son is a little over two and a half and he naps from 12:30-1 to 3 or 4pm everday. He stopped his morning nap at around 18 months or so I think. We have been lucky that he is such a great sleeper! :)

My daughter, now 25 months old, gave up her morning nap entirely around 17/18 months old. She has since taken a solid 3 hour nap every day. Goes down around 1:00 and wakes up around 4:00. She goes to bed 8/8:30 and wakes up around 7 ish. She is very active during the day so she really needs the 3 hour nap.
My nephew also transitioned to one nap around 18 months as well. He also sleeps for about 3 hours. he goes to be around 7:00 and wakes up around 7:00.
You will know when your daughter is ready to go to one nap a day. Extend her morning activities a little longer each day and key into her moods. You'll both be able to figure out a good nap time! I found that we were able to do so many more activities during the day because we didn't have the morning nap cutting our morning off.
Best of luck. I'm sure it will all work out just fine:)

I will answer as a daycare provider with 18 years experience as my kids are quite a bit older.

Most if not all kids I've ever watched are out of morning napping at 1. They take afternoon naps beginning around 12:30-12:45 and sleep till around 3:30. That gives them about the same amount of wake time before nap and after nap. I have found that the kids benefit greater with a longer nap than the 2 smaller ones, once they outgrow morning nap of course. It usually only takes a few days for them to adjust as by around a year, they are physically ready to go to only one nap.

My toddler went to one nap when he was around 22 months - he is now 27 months. He was a morning sleeper so we just pushed his morning nap out by 15 minute increments until we got him to go down around 11. He now sleeps from 11-1:30 which will probably remain his nap schedule until he drops the nap altogether. He is up at 7 in the morning and goes down around 7-7:30 at night - so sometimes he does get a cranky around 6:00 pm.

I think you really have to work with your childs natural sleep patterns.

Good luck,
H.

My 2yo (25 months) sleeps from 1-3:30. Sometimes a little shorter and sometimes a little longer.

My friend's 2yo (27 months) has quiet time in his bed from 9-10am and then naps from 1-3. When he was transitioning out of his morning nap, she still had him sit on his bed and read quietly or play. That way she still has a little downtime to herself (and now with her newborn) in the mornings.

Hi M.~
My daughter is 19 months. She takes no morning nap. She naps 12:30pm-3:00pm. She also sleeps at night from 8pm-8am. My son who is 5 years is also on the same schedule, except he's up at 7am to get ready for school. My son was on the same schedule since he was about 18months. I stopped the am nap for both shortly after 12months. It just seemed to help with their bedtime sleep instead, which we all needed!!!
Hope this helps!!

My son (15 months tomorrow) takes two naps. He, over the last 2 weeks, has started getting up at 5a - it used to be 6:30-7a. When he woke up a little later he would usually nap from 9-10/11a, now he naps around 7/8a-9a. He used to take an afternoon nap from 1-3p, which has now gotten earlier too. I think he may be ready for just one mid-day nap. So, we are going to try (and I stress try) to keep him up till about 11a and see what happens then! I am really hoping one nap will encourage him to sleep a little later in the mornings. 5am is really early for me!! He goes to bed at 7p with no problems, so I cannot complain though!

I have 2 kids, 3 years and 19 months, and both of my kids take a nap at about 11:00 and then they are up until 8:00 which is bed time. I think alot of it depends on what time they get up in the morning. My kids are fairly early risers (around 6:30), so about 10:30 or 11 they are ready for a nap.

i would just read her cues. my boys are 22 months old and still take a morning and afternoon nap. their babysitter has thought about cutting one out but thinks they actually seem tired at those time. sometimes on the weekends we only get one mid-day nap in and we can definitely tell by their moods that they are exhausted by about 6pm. just try some things and see how she adjusts. she'll let you know if she needs more sleep!!
hope this helps!

My youngest is 21 months, for some reason the past month she is not napping at all!!!!!!!! I put her down the same routine, even moved the time up to make sure she is tired and she won't sleep in there. She just plays with her blanket, her baby or the things hangin on her crib. She is happy and not screaming, but will not sleep- can't get her to sleep!!!!!! By 4 or 5oclock she is then sooooo cranky! I think 21months is too early to give it up. I think most toddlers this age take one nap not two. My other 2 children gave up the 2 naps at about age 1. Move her nap up and give her just one then she can go to bed earlier at night. good luck

Hey M.,

I have a small daycare and all the kids (ages 1, 1, 2, 2) nap from about 12:30-3pm every day. No morning nap, we gave those up a little after turning a year old. My daughter (2 years) goes to bed from 7:30p-6:30a. I am sure the other kids are similiar at home. Good luck.

Hi M., I have a 20 month old who has been on the same nap schedule forever. She sleeps from about 8:00 til 5:00am(only because my work schedule otherwise she will sleep until about 7:00am). She usually takes her nap @ around 11:30 and she sleeps until about 2-2:30, it really depends on her daily activities. She then doesn't go back to sleep until 8:00. It is very common for a child to only take one nap @ these ages. I would only be concerned if it is a short nap. Most children this age nap for about 2-3 hours. I would get concerned if it is under 1 and a half hours and she isn't getting adequate rest at night.

My 16 month old son goes down around 12:45pm and then I put my 31 month old daughter down after I'm done with the boy (around 1pm). He sleeps until about 3pm and she sleeps until almost 4pm . I know that neither of them could make it through the afternoon until bedtime if they napped in the morning. Especially my son.

We have a 20 month old and an 10 month old. They both are on the same nap/bedtime schedule. Morning nap at 9am until around 11:30am, afternoon nap at 2pm until about 5pm bedtime around 7pm. They don't necessarily sleep the whole time since they love being in their cribs yammering away to each other, but eventually they do sleep. At night they fall asleep about an hour after bedtime, sleep until 6am and stay in their cribs happily babbling away until 7am. I keep wondering when our oldest will not want his morning nap, but like clock work he gets cranky at the same time and wants to go to his crib. But he seems content with his current sleep schedule, so we aren't going to fuss with it until he cues us that he is ready for something different. Strange little critters, aren't then :)

My toddler is 18 months and takes one nap if I'm lucky for 1-2hours. The time varies depending on activity here and can be AM or PM. My older one was down to one nap by 18 months and refused to take them anymore at about 2.5 yrs (much to my dismay as I was pregnant at the time and looked forward to nap time!) She was old enough to rationalize with and the deal was if she was crabby she napped and that worked for us. Have fun!

I babysit a 20mos old girl and she takes a morning nap. Sometimes there is a short afternoon nap too, but she is rapidly growing out of that. The other child I babysit took a morning nap, none in the afternoon, until just the past few weeks when its been moved to going to sleep after lunch. He is 2. My nephew just turned two a couple weeks ago and he too always took just a morning nap until about a month ago (so 22-23 mos) when he, like the boy I watch, switched to a just after lunch nap.

I think every kid is different and nap times change- just as soon as you get your schedule to coincide with theirs. :-)

Hi!
My daughter is 18 mos. She usually takes 1 nap around 11am - 2pm. She sleeps from 7pm - 7am most nights. Sometimes she wakes up at 6am (when my husband gets up for work). On those days she will often take a little nap around 9:30 or so for 45 min to an hour and then a later afternoon nap. Recently she had a cold and wasn't sleeping well at night, so I put her back on her old schedule of morning nap 10am - noon, afternoon nap 2:30 - 4. She had dropped her morning nap at around 15 mos, I think. She has always been a good sleeper and will actually tell you she wants to go to bed and walk upstairs and lay down in her bed on her own (to my unceasing amazement).

My son (who has never been a great sleeper) dropped his morning nap at 12 mos. He then napped from noon - 3 from 12 mos to about 20 mos or so then switched to a little later -- 1pm - 3pm until he was 3. The naps got shorter and shorter until it took longer to get him to sleep than he would actually sleep, so we quit naps. His bedtime is also 7pm. He usually sleeps until 6:30am at least, but he does wake during the night quite often. He's one of those kids who never admits to being tired and fights to stay awake no matter what. So, there were days that he had a morning nap and then didn't take an afternoon nap but he always was pretty difficult by 3pm if he had an early nap.

My son turns 3 tomorrow, and he takes only a morning nap. (from around 11-1). I know most people put there toddlers to sleep from 1-3, but it has always worked better for us to put him down in the morning, and he never has a problem going to sleep at this time. (A couple times a week he even sleeps until 2)
