Toddler Gymnastics Classes on Northside?

My son is very active and very coordinated. He began walking at 8 months, and hasn't stopped moving since! I'd love to get him into a gymnastics or tumbling program this fall, and would love suggestions of good classes ion the north side. Budget is very tight, so price is a BIG consideration. Thanks.

I also had a little one walking at 8 months. I totally understand! I signed my son up for gymnastics classses at Peterson Park on Pulaski just south of Peterson. The program was great, and every teacher we had (because we went multiple sessions) was excellent. The program runs through Chicago Park district. It costs about 60 dollars for a session of 13 classes.

The Chicago Park District offers affordable gymnastics classes. Go to http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com and click on programs. Follow the tips it has listed on that page for registration. I think if you sign up for their email newsletter you'll be reminded when registration begins. Most gymnastics classes are at the gymnastics center near Peterson Park but there are a few at neighborhood parks. Make sure you're online right at 9 am the day of registration because classes do fill up within a minute or two like the other poster said! You might want to have a few classes on different days in your wishlist in case one is full already. If you don't make it for online registration there will be some openings in person but it's a madhouse at the gymnastics center for in person registration -- it looks like people are lining up for concert tickets!! Good luck! He'll be just at the right age -- I think classes start at 18 months.

Jump Ahead Academy (on Clark near Belden in Lincoln Park) has some great classes (and instructors).

Try out your local park district! It's super cheap- I think about $10, some are free, per session. We went to the Lincoln Park Cultural Center for a few years, and also Wicker Park, and Hamlin too.
Best of luck!

Peterson Park has a great gymnastics program. It's more NW than North, but worth the trip. You can look at it through the Chicago Park District website. It is VERY popular, so you have to register early. If you want to register online, you have to do it literally within minutes. They have mom-and-toddler classes for 18 months and up. Great equipment in the facility. Spring semester was $45 for 10 weeks. If you can't get into Peterson Park, try other parks near your home. Have fun!

Check your neighborhood park district. I know in Bridgeport where I live there are a number of gymnastics classes for babies and toddlers that are offered. And you can't beat the price! All very very affordable. Chicago park district has a website...don't recall it off hand, but google it. Then you can search for your neighborhood from there and check out the programs they are offering. : )

I'm going to agree with the posters for Peterson Park. It's a gymnastic center complete with springboard floors, balance beams, rings, etc. My son has gone for about 8 straight sessions and has loved it. We started him about 20-21 months. There are 18-36 months classes. I don't remember if there were any under 18 months, but the next session starts in the fall (we're in the summer one thru mid-August). Classes are an hour and they have them at all times of day (we did an evening class last spring so my husband could join us - 6:30pm - so it's good with work schedules, too). The teachers have all been excellent!

They fill up fast with registration, but it's well worth the time online (or waiting in line if you do walk in registration). Have fun!

For gymnastic/tumbling, the Peterson Park Gymnastic Center can't be beat. It's a full sized gym with all olympic gymnastic equiptment, mats, etc. My son has been there for a year now and he adores it. The prices can't be beat, either, at $45 a 10 week session.

The Park District offers toddler gymnastics classes. I'm currently enrolled and an 8 week session is $40. You just really need to be on the ball with registration. Classes sell out within a minute or two. Great value, great class.
