Toddler Eyeglasses Recommendation

My 19 month old was just identified as having a significant astigmatism and needs glasses. Does anyone have suggestions as to where to buy? We're looking for cost effective (currently no vision insurance), durable and cute...Is that too much to ask? Has anyone purchased toddler glasses from Costco?

Thanks!

I had horrible experiences everywhere except Wheaton Eye Clinic and VisionWerks. We bought the Nike Flexion at Wheaton Eye Clinic (pretty costly) and then purchased 2 pair of backups at VisionWerks in Bolingbrook which were also flexible for $100 for both pair. I do still like the NIkes the best, but for the cost the others are terrific.

I just recently got glasses for my 4 year old who has Down syndrome. The only advice I would give is to get wire frames. When he takes them off he rips them off. The frames are not breaking & can be bent back into shape.

I just had another mom tell me that JCPennys has reasonable frames.

Good luck in your search.

I took my 3 year old son to Wheaton Eye Clinic, the Ped docs are very good and the vision center is awesome as well. Doctors Osterlee and Kipp both work out of Wheaton Eye Clinic and they also work out of the CDH NICU. Costco might be cheaper at Wheaton Eye they give you free adjustments and I have been there 3 times in 6 months getting them adjusted, they get beat up with a now 4 year old boy. Good Luck.

I really like the Geneva Eye/vision center. It is located next to Delnor Hospital in the medical offices, phone ####-###-####. They do have a children discount. I never compared prices but there is a 1 year replacement warranty and they will fix the minor stuff for free. They will replace the screws, readjust them, put in nose pieces, etc are for free and walk in. At one time they gave me daughter a spare frame that fit her lenses while hers were sent away. The customer service is why I go there and they have a nice selection. Hope that wells.

Eye Boutique in Schaumburg. My daughter has gotten all of her glasses there. We just brought the prescription to them and picked out the frames. They may do payment plans, not sure. My daughter now 7, got glasses at 2 and we went everywhere looking for a good fit. This place had the best prices and variety. They have a big selection for children. For $30 you can also get a 1 yr. warranty. They fix nose pads and adjust them at anytime with no fees.

Do NOT go to Visionworks. The one in gurnee is especially terrible. I've been treated bad there and they told me they gave me a free lens cleaning kit, when in fact they charged it onto my bill. When I inquired, they said "ooops", and pretended it was an accident. Do not go there.
