I have noticed that my son has had several pimples on his chin for over a month now. He's only 2 1/2. I've tried to scrub it every day he get's a bath and it doesn't seem to help. I don't want to put something on it that may make it worse since there skin is so sensitive. Any suggestions out there would be great.

What can I do next?

My son gets it from time to time. It usually goes away by itself. Happens when he is teething sometimes. Scrubbing it I think could make it worse so I would just leave it alone unless it gets worse. If the area becomes dry and cracked or something then I would put something on it.

If they are only white or skin colored, and not red (unless picked at) then they may be a type of wart, caused by a virus. One of my boys had them on his neck (and they can spread) for over a year, and a dermatologist prescribed a medication called Aldera that cleared it right up.

Dawn,
If this doesn't clear up in the next few weeks, you may consider a pediatric dermatologist. My 3 year old has acne on his cheeks...it is very very uncommon at this age, but it can happen and can be treated.

While this may be acne, perhaps the cause is not clogged pores. My children used to get what looked like acne, but it was really an allergic reaction.

My children were allergic to Ranch dressing when it touched their faces. A friend's child was allergic to catsup when it touched the face.

Perhaps try putting a little hydrocortizone ointment on the area and see if that makes a difference.

Additionally, I also have extremely sensitive skin. The only cleanser I have found gentle enough for my skin, not make me break out or dry out my skin is by Neutrogena Pore Cleanser. See link for a picture of the bottle. I use it to wash my face but also apply to other areas like the shoulder or chest if I have the beginning of a breakout. It's a very thin non-soap formula.

I know other people have mentioned this to you, too. My son is the same age as yours and has just recently starting cutting his molars. He's been chomping on his fingers and subsequently has gotten just a few pimple-type bumps on his chin. I'm crediting them to that, guessing it's due to the moisture running down his fingers. Hope that's it, for both of them!

Toddlers will get this from time to time best solution is to keep the face naturally clean, and leave alone. It will go away soon. If not call doctor and he might prscribe a topical ointment.

Dawn,
I'd have that looked at by his ped doc or a dermatologist. It may be musculosum contagiosum. It is a virus that is common with children his age. This is could be contagious from skin to skin contact, and could spread to other parts of his body. It doen't look like a common wart, but resembles more of a pimple with a white, waxy core. Scrubbing these may make them spread. Doctors say that this condition will go away over time, could be years in some cases though. It can be treated with topical medication that they apply in the doctor's office. Hope this may help.

I think my daughter has something similar, it's from moisture. Does he use a pacifier? What helps me is limiting her passi use for only sleeping and keeping her face dry and clean. Also when it gets really bad I use a little cortazone ointment before bed.

I hope this helps.

My daughter gets bumps on her skin that look like pimples and the ped said it was keratosis polaris. It is sensitive skin. We were told to use aquaphor, aveeno and sensitive skin products. Has he ever had a reaction like this? Hope this helps.

It's probably moisture from teething or food. Make sure after every meal you wipe everything off really well and pat dry. Then use a moisture barrier like lanolin (PurLan, Lansinoh) or Vaseline to keep any drool off.
