Tips for Talking

I've worked with infants and toddlers for over 20 years and speaking and learning more than one language is not any problem at all...it actually stimulates a part of their brain that only if stimulated between birth to 3 years will stay active if not it will sit dormant. I've had toddlers speak English; Spanish; Hebrew; French and Persian all by 2 1/2 - 3 years. They will choose on their own which they will speak as a first language and will understand and respond to those in their native language. I also had 2 sisters that did not say a word until 3 years and then they didn't shut up! Now they are Honor Roll students. I am sure your baby will talk soon...and definitely by the time he is married:)

As for the Baby Einstein DVD's They are great in my opinion...I've been showing them for 15 years.

"Babby Babble" is a name of a video available at Amazon...you can read my review there as well ("Z's Mama"). Aside from speech therapy & the ideas/tips from the therapist, It's the only thing we found that made any difference with our late talker. btw, he loved the baby einstein videos but they are for visual stimulation- NOT verbal. Hi, C.. I would suggest just talking to him more and trying to get him to talk to you. Maybe less TV would help, too. Some kids just don't talk very much right away. Try asking him questions that he can answer. Try pointing to things and describing them (look at the white cat, look at the green grass). That will help build his vocabulary. You can also try teaching him songs because the way the brain works, singing is easier to remember than talking, believe it or not. But I wouldn't stress out about him not being a big talker. As long as he can ask for what he needs, and he is able to speak normally for a 2-year-old, you probably don't have anything to worry about.

Some kids are more physical than verbal. Kids who walk first usually talk later, and the opposite is also true. Just love him, talk to him, sing with him, ask him questions, and he should develop OK.

Please don't worry about him being a late talker. Bi lingual kids usually are. there little brains are processing 2 languages which delays the speech. But the advantages of learning 2 languages at an early age are very superior than talking early.

I'm not 'big' on tv for little ones.
actual 'play' is more engaging. to encourage speech it's important to model it yourself. talk ALL THE TIME.
NARRATE what is going on at ALL TIMES.
when you play, you NARRATE what you are doing.

it can be 'annoying' for you as the adult, but YOU are the role model!
so: "look! I put the RED Block ON the blue block. ON. see? it is ON. Oh, no! it fell DOWN. DOooWn. D-o-w-n. Oh, you put it back ON. ON. OOOOOn."

"mommy is opening the refrigerator. Oooopen. See? Open. what will I get? MILK? yes, M-I-L-K. mmmm. MILK. Here's the milk."

might seem 'over the top,' but in actuality it is not. repetition is how we learn (ever take a foreign language class? you repeat after the teacher. there used to be a lot of this in schools, too.)

also, when I use the dashes this is me trying to represent exaggerated speech, not telling you to spell out the words...

I would just play games and TALK talk talk :-)
