Tipping - Hoffman Estates,IL

I tip everyone you mentioned, and then some.

My hairstylist gets about $25 for a tip on a cut and color of $75.

Nails - $5 tip on $25 service

Massage - $25-$30 tip on $85 service

These people I am tipping are nowhere near the high end of the pay scale, and most pay rent to have a place to host you while you get the service.

If I find a hair stylist or massage therapist that makes a killing, I may change my ways. Maybe my idea of "good money" is different than others.

Another way I look at it is this - I shouldn't be getting a service done if I cannot afford to tip - that includes hair, eating out, nails, etc. As I stated, most pay rent and are not in charge of what they are actually able to charge you for the service.

I believe in capitalism (it works), and I probably make more than all of the service providers you named. Maybe this is my small way of moving toward communism.

Maybe I am an over tipper - is there a program for me? Nah. I don't want help. I like being generous.

I'm a hairstylist. Pay is not great unless you are some celebrity stylist and we work our asses off to get in the higher end salons. There are many stylist who do make a great living, but they still work extremely hard for it. We work holidays, weekends, have yearly continuing education and long hours to accommodate peoples needs. Tips are very much a part of our expected salary. Wages are all over the board depending on if a stylist is getting hourly pay or commission, or if one is an apprentice or just the shampoo girl.

That's just the way it goes in the service industry. I don;'t know why it is set up that way, but it is.

Also, on the weekends I am a balloon artist. I basically work for free, provide my own materials and yes, I wear a tip button. People flag me down, requesting items, sometimes, I have spent 25+ minutes on a family making them really awesome stuff, and they rant and rave and zero tip. It's infuriating.

I tip all of the above unless they are the owner of the business. It is higher if it was excellent service and it is 15% if it was average. If it was not good service, I leave 10% with very specific reasons written in a note for the person.

If you feel like you are getting ripped off, why on earth would you patronize that business? The few times I have felt slighted or thought I was being taken advantage of, I never stepped foot back in that business.

I also keep thinking, if my daughter, niece or nephew ever work for tips, I hope people will be fair to generous to them.

Treat others as you would have them treat your own children.

If a personal service is done for you, then you tip. This means haor, massage, facials, nails, bag carrying, etc.

Most service professionals are paid a low base just like restaurant servers and then have to make the rest in tips. Many have to either rent their chairs or spaces or pay a percentage of all services to the owner. If you pay $100 for a massage, that masseuse isn't getting $100. If you can't afford to tip a service person, then you shouldn't get the service.

I can say as an ex-massage therapist that I earned my living on my tips! I got a small wage and had to rely heavily on my tips. I did not "rent" my space but in a sense I did b/c of what they charged per hour for my services vs. what they actually paid me!!
I strongly feel if a hair dresser, esthetician, massage therapist, nail specialist, etc. does a fabulous job then they deserve some extra $. I even tip at the car wash and when I get my oil changed if they are nice, quick and do a good job.

I tip all of the above...being on your feet all day long is hard work!

I tip waitresses and that is it. Hairstylist, massage therapists etc....are making a killing, they don't need a tip......in my opinion.....and I am a licensed cosmotologist.......

Yes, we typically tip about 20% when we go out to dinner. I do about 20-25% for hair (I've only had 1 mani-pedi and 1 massage in my life and they were both complimentary, but I tipped 20% of the value.)

There is only one time in my life that I have not tipped a server. When my oldest was a baby we went to Wildfire at Oakbrook Center for dinner. We waited 2 hours for a table. My son was a typical baby...gurgly, babbling, occassional whimpers if he needed to be burped, but REALLY not bad at all. The waiter was incredibly rude to us. Tapping his foot while my hubby asked him what the sides were (he wasn't quite ready when the waiter rushed us to order) and then took away my food before I was even finished and "tsked" and rolled his eyes at me when I requested a sling for my son's carseat carrier. I had 1/2 my steak still there and all my veggies. In the tip section of the receipt we wrote "No Tip- Extremely rude service-we will never be back" and we have not returned. That was 4 yrs ago, but we used to go to Wildfire ALL THE TIME. Extremely bad service deserves to be punished and good service deserves to be rewarded.

My family is big on tipping. We tip wait staff 20% or more if they did a good/excellent job.

I always tip my hair dresser, mani-pedi lady, massage person, etc. The tip normally depends on the quality of work done, but on average, if the bill was $25, I give around $3-5.

When we go to hotels, we tip the chauffeur (if driven in), the maid, the bellman, the bar tenders, etc. We end up getting well-cared for, and honestly, most of them are making such low wages they appreciate the help.

If you don't want to, you don't have to, but speaking from experience, if you expect good service again and again from people you aren't tipping, you will be sorely disappointed...

I tip 20% normally...if the service rocked my world - more...if it sucked - 10 to 15%...

if gratuity is already included in the service - then I don't tip any further....

at hotels - I leave a tip for the maid....

if it's crappy service...they get crappy tip.

Yes, I tip for all services........... dining out, my hair, nails, toes, massages and any other service. I typically tip 20% unless service was lousy and I will give lower.

I tip based on how good my service was. I don't do the nails or massage type stuff...but even at the cheapie haircut place, I tip well...

We eat out alot, so thats where most of my tipping experience is. If I have to wait, while my food gets cold, for you to come back and check on me (to see if I need dip, or a sharp knife, or if things are ok cuz usually someone else brought the food from the kitchen...you are NOT getting a good tip....if water/soda cups are not kept full...not a good tip...if you forget something I asked for like extra napkins...not so great a tip, etc)

We don't eat anywhere fancy....$10-$30 a meal places, with 3 of us in the family....local steak houses, burger joints, Applebees if I must (I love their margaritas!)...but I will tip really well for great service!

I dont like when they ask for the tip. a friend of mine took herself and her grandaughter to have a pedicure, and the nail tech asked her next time she wanted her tip in cash not on the card, and another time she was at a restaurant and as the waitress dropped of her bill she asked if my friend was going to tip her in cash or put in on the card!!! that i think is rude. BUT, i do tip for restaurants, hair cuts, nail salon etc.

i tip the person who cuts mine and my daughters hair because she does NOT charge and arm and a leg for her services i get my hair cut n blow dried and my daughters done all for 30 bucks with a tip

but this one's a little different. Yes, I tip my hair stylist & waiter/waitress....& that's it.
