Good day Magnificent Mom's!

The Crock Pot I received for a wedding gift has recently died.. so now I get a new one!! I am looking for recommendations of ones that you are using and LOVE and the ones you have used and HATED (the ones to stay away from). I'm looking to spend between $25-$50. Since we have a growing family of 6 and we like to entertain... I think we are going to need a lot of quarts. Your input is greatly appreciated!!!

Peace,
B.

I jsut have the basic rival crock pot and love it. It is an oval so it is more shallow than the tall ones, but I can fit a good size roast it in like a baking dish.

Make sure you can take the crock out, so much easier to wash. I wish it had a travel sleeve like someone mentioned, it would be so nice to be able to make and take stuff without worrying about the lid sliding off and spills getting in the car (this happened once but it wasnt' this crock pot).

I forget what brand my crock pot is, but it's 7 quarts. I love that it can easily hold a whole chicken because my family of 6 can eat a lot!

I wish mine would have died! I finally gave away the one my husband inherited before we were married and got a big (6 1/2 qt. I think) Rival with removable stoneware. Mine is basic (hi/low, no programmable features) which is what I wanted. I think when you get things with lots of bells and whistles they have more things to go wrong with them. I have been very happy with it, although I just saw one in an ad recently that had some kind of a cover that was supposed to prevent spilling when you take it somewhere (which I seem to have a problem with!). Happy shopping!

I've used MANY and different types each time. So far the only recommendation I have is get one where the crock comes out so you can wash it in the dishwasher/sink. Much easier then trying to wash it if its attached to the heating element! I've found that it didn't seem to matter what brand it was.

Hi B.! That is also my given name. You just don't hear that much. Aldi has a crofton 7 quart crock pot this week. Sorry I didn't pay attention to how much. Right now I have a 6 quart rival that I do alot of cooking in. Hope this helps, L. S.

I actually prefer a roaster to a crock pot. It cooks really well and it is much bigger for a larger family. This is the one I have and I give it a thumbs up!! :)

Look for one where the is a "base" and then the crock insert. It's easy to wash, easy to store left overs - I love mine. It came with a travel sleeve that goes around it to help keep everything hot if we're going on the road with it and there's a way to leave it on and plug it in (so you can put it in the sleeve while it's empty, load it up, warm it up and transport). It's a big oval shape, not sure how many quarts, but it feeds four and then some, and I've also used it for pot lucks. Ours is made by Hamilton Beach, it's called a Meal Maker. Hope that helps.

Hi B.,
Don't forget to check www.craigslist.com for your crock pot - they are on there all the time. Maybe you can find one in your area for $10 or less!

Hi B.!
I have the Hamilton Beach crock pot that Bev sent you the link to. I LOVE IT. It comes with a 2, a 4 and a 6 qt insert. It is perfect for entertaining and for a large family. Clean up is a breeze. You can't go wrong with this one. I received it as a Christmas gift last year and have used it OFTEN and it looks great still.

Don't bother to get a fancy crockpot with lots of features - just get the biggest one you can. Mine is 6quart which is a good size for a large family but I think you can get 7 quart ones. Before you buy at Kmart, Target etc try a Big Lots - that's where I got my huge one and it's great - good luck (by the way I made meat sauce in mine last night and it was absolutely delicious - and 1 and a 1/2lb of ground turkey went really far which was good - Alison

I have a fairly new one and looked for special features. The one I chose has a removeable Corning Ware insert. It is great because I can saute an onion or brown meat, then put in slow cooker. After dinner it can be put in the frig also. I cannot remember the price, but wasn't terribly high. I bought it a Meijers, but haven't seen it there in awhile. Now I am an online shopper. First place I look is Amazon because people rate things. ONE MORE GREAT THING--BUY THOSE COOKING BAGES THAT FIT INSIDE AND MAKE IT EVEN EASIER!!! Hope this helps
