Here is a couple i found, but i did read that you should try something bigger before using shoelaces. like maybe a jump rope or something so they can get the idea a little easier. hope this helps you .. good luck

~Use different colored shoe laces so that you can cue the child on which side they should be working with at a given step In the poem below each line corresponds to one step of the tying process.

Build a tee pee
Come inside
Close it tight so we can hide
Over the mountain
And around we go
Here's my arrow
And here's my bow!

~(tune: Splish Splash I was taking a Bath)

Criss Cross and go under the bridge
Then you got to pull it tight.
Make a loop but keep a long tail
That is how to do it right
Then you take the other string
and you wrap it 'round the loop
Pull it through the hole
Now you got the scoop

Criss Cross and go under the bridge (this is where you tie the loops together)
Now you made a Double Knot!

There is a great book out there with shoes laces on the front. The laces are 2 different colors and the book talks about which lace to do what with and shows pictures. I know that I saw it recently at Target and got my daughters at The Learning Shop. Good luck!!

One trick is to use pipe cleaners first. Attach one end to something sturdy like a box. The pipe cleaners work because they are stiff and will stay in place while the child is working on getting their fingers in the right place. If you are still struggling and need more ideas please email me! I am an occupational therapist and have taught many children to tie!

Have never been able to teach mine to tie thier shoes, it's any wonder my older ones know how to. My 6 year old still can't so I will be interested in the postings you get.

My mom taught me this way to tie shoes and I still use it today. It's fast and easy. You take both laces and hold them as loops and explain that they are bunny ears. Then you show him when the bunny wants to tie his/her ears he just tucks one ear under the other, and then pulls it through tightly. Simple, fast, and no messing with the other way that I still can't manage very well (one bunny ear loop and you tuck the other lace around and under. Kinda tricky) Hope that helps.
