Hi
I also have this condition. Iam also on Amor Thyroid. It has worked better for me than any other medication I have tried. They dont know wxactly what causes it, but it is related to stress. I really recommend this book: http://www.webheights.net/depression/arem/ts.htm

You can find it on Amazon. It discusses all the physical and emotional effects of thyroid disorders. It discusses treatment options. The author has a website that sells herbal remedies, but they are kinda expensive.

Good Luck

S. I was in a similar situation awhile back. Fortunately I had a great doctor who gave me a list of natural remedies to try. Bad news is I don't have the list anymore because none of them worked for me. The good news is that once I tried those and they didn't work, he prescribed a natural thyroid medication called Armour thyroid. If you get to the point of "NO other way to go" you should try Armour, I breastfed both my boys while taking it with no problems. They have a website at http://www.armourthyroid.com/ This medication is a natural product (you still need a prescription) not a synthetic compound. The other great thing is that Armour thyroid provides supplementation for both the T3 & T4 thyroid hormones. The synthetic compounds do not. Some doctors will not prescribe Armour thyroid I am not sure why, it has worked really great for me and a lot of others that I know. I think the website has a list of drs that are familiar with Armour thyroid that you could try. I would refer you to my doctor but unfortunately he is not practicing any longer :( Hope this helps, good luck! T.

I have the same problem and have for years. I am on synthroid it is a prescribed medication however, I am on a very low prescription. I am not sure if there are any natural ways to control it. I have been dealing with this for years and still haven't heard any. You may have better luck(at least I hope that you do) My best advice is ask you Dr lots of questions and be ready there is a lot of stuff that they will tell you if you ask. Keep your head up at least with me it was a long and confusing processes. Good Luck!

I have been hypothyroid for years now (so is my mom). I take synthroid, and it has been working just fine. I know several of the meds are derived from pig's hormones since they are apparently similar to our own (who would have thought). It is really important you actually see an endocrinologist and start taking something to regulate it (whether natural or prescription). My doc had me checked me several times while pregnant to make sure my levels were still good (pregnancy hormones can through off your pituitary which regulates your thyroid). It can actually cause harm to the fetus. It is also important to get your bloodwork done about every three months after you have the baby, because having a baby can actually throw off your thyroid. Fun huh :) Good luck!
