Thrush and Boiling Pacifiers

My 11 month old girl has thrush. We are beginning to treat it. I can see that we will need to boil toys and pacifiers and such. My question is when do we do this? Do we do it now when we begin treatment or do we wait till symptoms are gone? Or both?

What can I do next?

my youngest is the only one of ours that got thrush -- but i remember having to poil everything several times. i know it's easy to keep it once they have it -- so out dr. told us it was importnat to keep everything very clean. (which was harder than it sounded with 2.5 yr old twins walking around) so my 2 cents it to do it as often as she's having them in her mouth. you might just keep out a couple at a time and rotate them out. H. that helps some.

Hi K.,

My daughter is now 18 mos old but she had thrush when she was younger. We were instructed to boil toys and pacifiers at the beginning of her treatment.

I'm not sure what you were planning to use a method of treatment but after reading a little about you, I definitely get the sense a natural remedy may be your preferred method. A friend told me about treating Thrush with Grapefruit Seed Extract. You can find more on about it on this website:

I'm very intrigued about your lifestyle and would love to talk with you more. Feel free to email me: ____@____.com care and good luck with your little girl!

I would say both, right after you started the treatment, and a couple of days later, and all pacifiers at once. Thrush is not rare, nor is it too serious. My son had it too. The medicine is usually pretty potent, so the yeast will be gone in no time.

When my son had it last summer, i boiled everything, every time he used it. I would begin now, definitely! I also had it at the same time and had to wash EVERYTHING I touched in hot water.
Good luck to you; it's a pain, but not unbearable.

I know I have two kids that both had it and I boiled everything once a day cause it can spread.. I know that using a finger brush after the treatment will help it go away and using after will help keep it away.

Sorry to hear about the thrush. A friend of mine, whose son had it when he was about 7 months old, boiled everything before and after. She ended up tossing out any cloth toys that were usually finding their way to his mouth since she felt they either weren't clean enough or didn't deal well with being boiled. Out of curiosity, is there an herbal or non medicinal way are you dealing with thrush? Best of luck. -Ri

It's a good idea to boil them both now, inbetween, and when it is gone. Also you need to treat the thrush as quickly as possible, because it can cause a yeast infection on her diaper area, wich makes for an even crankier baby. Thrush can be very painful for babies it is like little blisters in there mouth. Make sure you continue to clean her teeth/gums regularly, but gentlt, as to not make it hurt more. Good luck!! When my daughter had thrush her doctor gave me a perscription for oral nystatin, and the cream for her butt, (she got the yeast infection) *If you are b/f make sure you clean your nipples well, with a mild soap, and try to dry them after feedings.
Again good luck!
