So What Happened?

Well we ended up doing the primrose oil and the castor oil. They both worked and the next day her water broke. Kelsie was born 3/22/08 6lbs 12 oz and very healthy. Come to find out when she delivered the baby had 2 knots in her umbilical cord we don't know how she made it. So thank goodness we rushed it or she would not have her here today. So sometimes a mother insitinct is better than a doctor. Thanks for all the help.

I have five children, so I know pregnancy is hard, especially at the end, but it really bothers me when ladies try to rush nature. Four of my babies had to go to intensive care. We were so grateful for every day that I was able to stay pregnant because it is so good for the baby. With my last pregnancy, I was on bedrest for 13 weeks, so believe me, I was really ready to be done. The last several weeks I was in almost constant pain from complications. I also knew my baby could die if he came early. The doctor finally broke my water after 40 weeks, and the baby only spent a few days in intensive care. Your friend would feel terrible if she rushed the process and the baby's lungs weren't ready. They can't test for that -- I know; that's what my babies had (immature lungs). Try to help her see the larger picture. Plus, having a newborn is harder than being pregnant, even though no pregnant lady would want to admit it. The doctor will induce her once she gets to 40 weeks. Don't let her have one of those 37 week babies that end up in serious trouble because the mom and the doctor were impatient.
Good luck.

Tell the young lady to have plenty of sex and walk as much as possible. Also squats are good as well. I just went through this with a friend of mine. She called me one day last week and said that she was starting to have a little bloody show and I popped over and took her on a 3 hour walk. The next morning, she was dilated to 1 or 2. I then showed up again and took her on a 8 hour walk, well needless to say at 4:15am she was at the hospital and at 4:36 am her son was born. Tell her congratulations!!!!!!

I myself had 2 kids one was 2 week's late I was induced and ended up having to have an emergency c-section due to her head being too big for my pelvis, and the other one was a planned c-section due to he was even bigger than his sister. Victoria was 9 lbs 6 ozs and Richard was 10 lbs and 2 ozs. I was trying for a VBAC but he was too big at 36 weeks for them to allow that to happen.

Everything Karen said is true. I personally wouldn't go with the Black Cohosh though. It has estrogen as well as progesterone so not really a fan.

The walking works because it stimulates the calf muscles. I learned that certain massage should be avoided during pregnancy in the legs because it can induce labor... actually getting the calf muscles massaged could be another option to the walking (and who wouldn't love a massage LOL).

I have also read that stimulating the nipples can induce contractions as well. I don't know how well it works but heck, why not just add that in with the sex just for added measure.

Just please be very careful trying to rush things, although I know how "miserable" she feels right now (mine were both 10 pounds, born at the end and middle of summer in two hottest, muggiest parts of the country). If there is ANY question about her conception date at all, I would not do a THING, besides normal walking to keep from swelling setting in. My first went 3 1/2 weeks over (before they finally induced me) Come to find out, she was conceived when we thought, but she was 8.6 lbs. 22" long, 14 1/4 head and fully developed. My second went 2 weeks overdue and was 9.5 lbs. 22" long, 14 1/4 head (similarities I know), and even though I was tiny delivering BIG babies, I wouldn't have given up a SECOND, just becuase there is a time and date set for that baby to be born, and staying healthy until that date is the utmost priority. I KNOW it's miserable and hard, but she will look back and MISS being pregnant one day... I promise!

Has her doctor stripped her membrane? My doctor did that for me when I was close to my due date b/c I wanted so badly to go into labor on my own since I was induced previously.Nothing worked for me and both mine end up being induced on he due date but the advice I got was walk,sex..even tried castor oil (DO not try that one,it is horrible and unnessesary!)Some claim it works but it's most certainly not worth it in the end.My best advice is to tell her to try and be patient and do last minute thigs to occupy her.We all know how frustrating it is...calling the husband every day at work to rush to the hospital, every belly ache your hoping its the one, eager to have the baby. It's all very stressful so please tell your friend to just relax...not like it won't happen and it's always nice to see the baby decide when his/her birhday will be!
