Thinking of Having a Second Child, but I Don't Think We Can Afford It - Advice?

Hello Ladies,
My husband and I were talking tonight about possibly having another baby. I was surprised by my husband bringing this up because I always thought he wanted one. I would love to have another one, but I honestly don't think we can afford it. I am fortunate enough to be a stay at home Mom and wouldn't trade this for anything. The biggest expense obstacle that we have is the cost of benefits. My husband works for a small commercial construction company. We pay about $900 a month for benefits for my husband, myself, and our 1 yr old son. Our benefits are through Blue Shield and I'm pretty sure the cost we are paying is not for any type of group plan (I think his company might be too small for a group plan). If we had an extra $900 a month then we could definitely have another child. I'm not sure what to do. If anyone has any suggestions on finances, cost savings, benefits, etc. I would greatly appreciate it. If we do decide to have another baby I'll have a lot more questions down the road. Thanks again!

I completely understand. I'd be very happy to share with you a business opportunity with Mary Kay Cosmetics. It's a business that I find truly family friendly and you can make as much money as you want so long as you put in the time. It's very easy and so extremely ethical. I love it. May God guide you as you make this decision together with your husband. I know it's very difficult. Warmly, K.

I would shop around for new insurance and see if you can get it cheaper somewhere else. I don't know if it is possible and you might end up paying more for deductibles and co-pays, but if you are a relatively healthy family it might be worth the higher deductible to decrease your monthly premium. Good luck, i know how much it can take a toll on the budget to pay so much for your health insurance. Hopefully it will all work out.

PS. Does your insurance offer a family plan. We pay the same premium regardless of how many kids we add to it because it is a family plan. That might be worth checking out.

I would agree with the other response. Shop around for health insurance. My family has Kaiser, we pay about $450/month and all well baby checkups are included with no copay. you can get a bit more expensive plans with less of a copay for other visits as well. I had my baby through Kaiser and have been very happy with everything. Hope this helps!
