Going to New Orleans this summer for a few days. I have a 2 and 3 year old. What are some of the best places to check out. I hate going somewhere and only find out after I leave that I missed an oppurtunity to do or see something interesting. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We went to Mother's. I was really disappointed how the food had no taste. We paid the price for fine dining. I think anything around the French Quarter is overpriced for tourism. We had fun walking around the market. Rain kept us from the parks.

Go to the aquaium and the zoo and the insectarium! Walking in the quarter is fun, but know that they may see some things in windows that some people find disturbing, but they are not so bad that it keeps children away for the most part. My daughter took field trips down there so the locals go all the time. Take a ride on the Ferry, kids love it, and if you walk on, it is free. On the Westbank there is the Mardi Gras museum, which is a great tour. There are many other museums, the DDay is good, but might not interest little kids, and there is a great children's museum too. Take them on a Mule buggy ride! These guys are full of information about the city.

Have a blast-be sure to go to Cafe Du Monde!

I was going to saw aquarium also!

Take them on a carriage ride.

Take them for beingnets (spelling?) and to the French Quarter (during the day). They have so many shops with dress up type stuff (boas, hats, etc)

We stayed ta La Pavilion: http://www.lepavillon.com/ - OMG what a nice hotel!!!

We had ordered breakfast be brought to our room one moring at 7:30 but we were exhausted, so when the bell rang at our door (yes, the rooms have DOORBELLS) I opened it and told the woman thanks, but we are still sleeping - just leave it on the floor. I went back to bed and got up 45 minutes later. Opened the door AND SHE WAS STILL THERE - waiting to serve us!! I was like "Holy Cow I am sooo sorry!!!" She like, "No worries Darling!"

What a hotel . . .

Also don't forget the Louisiana Children's museum, and there's Storyland in City Park.

Personally I used to love the quarter in the morning/lunch time. I don't know if they still wash the streets with bleach in the morning (the used to)... so you want to miss that part, it used to take until around 11am for the bleach smell to go away...

I haven't been back since the flood... so I don't know if the tapdancing kids have returned (I hope I hope I hope)... but nothing says NewOrleans to me like the music and the food and dancing in and around bourbon st. Benets pasteries, crawfish etouffee, and oysters on the half (the Desire used to be my favorite spot for oysters for lunch http://www.sonesta.com/RoyalNewOrleans/index.cfm?fa=dinin.... The artists on the walk, and the cemetary, and all the touristy things I never did tire of. (I used to live about 1.5 hours away and we'd spend the weekends in the FQ every weekend except Mardi Gras (we'd go to Jazz Fest instead).

The Audobon Zoo is wonderful. The trolley is fun, but remember there isn't any air conditioning!
