Hi Moms! I just took my kids into the backyard after the long snowy winter. I found rabbit pellets everywhere and almost all of my plants have been eaten. My evergreens look like someone took a hedge clipper to them. We have a cedar fence but the pesky rabbits have obviously dug underneath to get to my backyard. I found one entry point and blocked it but I don't know what else to do. IDoes anyone have any ideas on how to get them to stop eating my plants. I'll buy anything, try anything at this point. Please help me save my landscaping!!

I had the samne problem last year, and what really helped was pepper.
Just put some pepper around your plants, it won't hurt them but rabbits hate it. The only thing is that if it rains you have to reapply.
but it is cheap!
good luck!

Hello Chrissy!

Try using moth ball or "human hair clipping"....There is also a spray in your garden section that you can purchase that you spray around the plant and shrub area...not sure the name of it, but it has "blood" in it which distracts deer, rodents, rabbits, etc. Where do you live....I can't believe that rabbits are already eating on your plants!

Around our garden we planted boarders of marigolds. The larger the variety the better. The rabbits hate the smell of them and leave the garden alone. When the plants seed, I collect the seeds and plant them again the next year. Cayanne Pepper works great also.

I sprinkle red pepper or chili powder around my plants. It kept themout but you do need to reapply. I bought it from the dollar store. Marigolds did not work last year. It is like they are getting immune to them. Also I plant alot of petunias for the rabbits to eat.

I hate them too!!!! And I used to love them but they are ruining all of our landscaping. This is what I have heard...I've tried some, kinda work, kinda doesn't.

1. Spritz plants/etc with water and some tabasco. My MIL swears by it. Need to reapply with each rain which is a pain...
2. Spread blood meal around plants (I will try it shortly myself)
3. Use this spracy rabbit/fence. I tried it... it did seem to work a little but humans wouldn't even want to walk near our house... WREAKED of FECES!
4. Moth balls - didn't seem to help me.

Good luck! If you hear of any others, please let me know.

I had the same problem, but only when our dogs were not able to get to them. We used deterrent sprays and a live trap. Be sure they arent nesting under decks and such. We caught four or five and let them go in the woods. So, either let a dog frequent your backyard or borrow a live trap! LOL..Good luck,,,oh, they love cedar!

The only thing that worked for us was my husband putting netting all around the bottom perimeter of our wood fence. It took him a really long time to do it, but they ate one of our expensive bushes and they were working on another one. This was the beginning of last summer and we haven't seen any in our yard since then. Good luck!
