What is the most desirable room location/floor on a cruiseship. We are a family of four (mom,dad,son-10,daughter-3). Looking at the diagrams just doesn't help me. We do need to budget conscious so a suite is out of the question.

What can I do next?

I've only been on one cruise, but I would say make sure you have a window. Even if it's a little porthole, it's better than nothing. Also, close to any stairs/elevators might be a good choice as well. As far as the front or the back of the boat, I have no clue! Maybe there are some more experienced cruisers that might be able to help you! Good luck!!

Hi RJ,
If possible, I would try for the middle of the ship, as well, as a window (not interior room). The front and back of the ship will feel ALL up and down movement so much more than the middle.
Have fun.

we just back from 4th cruise on Monday, and we love Main deck-goes link of ship, so easy going anywhere!
We also prefer one with room, easier to deal with pitchy movement when you can watch the waves!

Dear RJ,
If you can afford it, get a window. Also, if there's a chance any of you are going to be seasick at all, get as close to the middle as possible. My husband has a real problem with seasickness, however he loves to cruise. He highly recommends as low as possible on the ship and as close to the middle of the boat as possible. There's less movement.

I would recommend using an experienced travel agent to book it. There's no extra cost to you to do this. Contact Sandy at ____@____.com company is Cruise Holidays of Arrowhead. I've used them for 4 cruises and Sandy is wonderful! Good luck! B. P.

We have cruised 4 times, but just as a couple. We usually don't spend much on the room, but I totally agree on getting a window -especially since you have kids. It really is worth the small increase in price.

My understanding is that unless you get a suite, you will end up with a very small bathroom and a small room. We were just prepared for, and dealt with it. There is such a huge jump in price to a suite, and for us it wasn't worth it. Also, the size also compares from cruiseline to cruiseline. We cruised once with Norwegian, and the room was ridiculously small. We haven't cruised with them again. Carnival's rooms are small, but bigger than Norwegian's.

As for location on the boat, just keep in mind that you pay for convenience. The lowest deck is cheapest, since you have more stairs to climb. You pay more as you move up the ship, so decide how much that is worth to you. I agree with trying to get close to a stairway if you can, but that wasn't a huge deal. Things are so spread out on the ship, that even if you are close to one thing, you will end up being far away from something else. We have never found this to be a problem. You are on a beautiful boat relaxing, who cares if you have to walk a bit to get somewhere?

Hope this helps! Have a great time!

I am with Trinity here. Don't scrimp too much, and definitely get a window! I once got the cheapest room on the ship thinking it wouldn't matter because we'd be out and about all the time, but it was horrible! It was so small, we literally couldn't even fit out suitcase on the floor to unpack. The entire bathroom was the shower. No kidding, the water sprayed over the commode, sink, and everything. Ugh! Get a window and make sure you have room to breathe!
