Hello Mama's!!

My husband and I are taking our daughters this Saturday to The Dallas Aquarium. I was curious as to how many of you would allow your 4.5 and 2.5 year olds to watch the shark feedings? I have actually never seen this before and I am affraid that it would be too "bloody" for them??? They are more excited about seeing the Sharks then any other animal there. Should I let them watch that or wait until after that part? Both my husband and I can see the good and bad with it? We are stumped!

What can I do next?

It's not a that bad at all. They drop fish parts into the water (dead fish parts -- like fish tails, heads, etc), but you really can't tell what it is ... I think it's been frozen or something b/c the food really wasn't that recognizable. The sharks just swim around in circles and quickly snap it up. Entertaining to see, really. So don't worry -- they don't feed them live fish or anything. There's no blood involved at all.
After all, this is the food chain. Use it as an educational opportunity to teach them about the "circle of life."

oh I meant to add: get there early to grab a seat , especially if you're going at a popular time (weekends). The shark feedings are really popular and it can get crowded in that tunnel.

My mom and I took my son last summer, just before his 3rd birthday. BTW - We rode the DART train from Richardson and the whole day became one big adventure. He loved it! He was mesmerized by the sharks and also loved the giant aquarium wall in the lower level. I wouldn't worry about it - just say it's "food". If there's a mess, just say "what a messy eater!" We didn't see a feeding while we were there b/c I didn't see that it was offered, but I would have had no problem with it. My son did see a tiger feeding in Arizona where they launch giant chunks of meat and the tigers chase after it and my little guy thought it was great. Good luck!

There's no blood - only fish guts. Everything on the planet eats. You all could watch Lion King on Friday night and then go witness first-hand the circle of life.

I have seen it several times and no blood is involved and you really can not tell that it is fish they are feeding upon. Just chunks. You can see it from below in the tunnel or from up above. Not as much to see from above but the sharks swimming around. My children have always loved the Dallas World Aquarium and still do (21, 17 and 16) My 21 year old is thinking of having her wedding there.
