The Cruel Jokes of Life - JFF

So since I am on bed rest and am extremely bored, I thought I would start a JFF post about the cruel jokes that life sometimes plays on us.

For example: I haven't had any "nesting" type urges... Until today... When I am on bed rest, and can't clean the apartment top to bottom like I really really want to. My mom, sister, and sister's boyfriend are coming over later today to do it for me while hubby takes kiddo out for a bit... But that doesn't help the intense urges that I am feeling RIGHT NOW! Lol

So what are some of yours?

What can I do next?

Daily when I'm at work, I think of ALL of the things that need done at home, especially this time of year. And then when I get home after work and kids activities, I just want to go to bed and not much gets done.

I'm a SAHM, my DS is in elementary and my DD stays home with me. I go to school as well and took my last final last week. I always make it a point to get up shower, do my hair, put makeup on.. get the kids ready etc. But last Thursday my first free day (no school, no practices, no playdates) I decided to sleep in and not do any of those things. I normally get out of the car to get my son from school, not having even taken a shower I decided to go through the pick up circle. I mean I was still in PJ's with no bra and OF course that's the day his teacher is going to walk my DS out and to the car so she can ask me to help with his Xmas party. I was dying of embarrassment!!
Then to top it off 2 of our neighbors brought over treat boxes that night as well! needless to say I felt like my free day of a little extra sleep and greasy hair backfired!! :)

Have the folks bring you a knitting loom and some yarn and you can make some baby things while you're on bed rest.
Cruel jokes of life?
It never rains till after you've washed the car.

Some things just can't be found until you've stopped looking for them or don't need them anymore.

My husband thinks it's weird but once I find something that I really really like (shoes, purse, bras, makeup, etc) I'll buy three because it NEVER FAILS that once I like something they either discontinue it or change the formula, or 'improve' it so that I can never find it again or it no longer fits right or I don't like it anymore.

well, I was on bedrest too with my oldest boy...didn't get the nesting urge until I was on bedrest - like you...LOL!!

For me right now? The cruel joke that life is playing on me is politics...I have a plethora of candidates and due to the lack of federal budgets for several years (just appropriation bills) and this "new" budget (what a joke), our contracts are stymied and I have to keep candidates warm while we play the political waiting game...

glad your family is able to help you!

Not quite the huge cruel joke--

Kiddo couldn't get to sleep until 9:30 last night. I was up at 4:45 for a while b/c my husband had to be in to work early and I couldn't get back asleep until 6. Got a half hour and then got up, let Kiddo sleep in, and we hustled to get him to school on time.

On the way there, one of the neighbors reminded me it was a two-hour late start day. D'oh!

We used our extra time well, but I would have loved another chunk of sleep and I'm sure Kiddo would have loved some more time to play Legos in his pajamas-- and in 20 minutes, I walk him to school. Again.

Nesting urge? That's a real thing? I have never in my life felt an intense desire to clean, and I especially hated cleaning while pregnant.

With my second we thought we had all the time in the world since the delivery was a planned c-section. I felt no urges about anything except ice cream and milk. I put off packing the hospital bag thinking with a planned c-section life would be fantastic. Uh huh; famous last words. The very night I told my husband we really needed to pack that bag, my water broke. I remember standing there on a towel in our bedroom, directing my normally rational husband through the packing process. He was running around like a headless chicken with a bewildered look on his face as if he couldn't believe it was happening. He kept asking me if I was sure; it was two weeks before my due date and at least that much before the scheduled c-section. I remember asking him 'man, how much more sure do you want me to be; my water broke." It still makes me laugh to this day. Good luck on bed rest. Soon you'll have two to drive you nuts. Won't that be fun? :)

Nesting is something else, isn't it. While not on bed rest, we were between apartments and staying in my Mom's basement while hubs put finishing touches on our new one. I helped him buy paint, and went away for a long 4th of july weekend, thinking it would be done in that time. He bought himself a heat gun and took to painstakingly scraping away all the existing paint on the baseboards, etc. Not finished until late September. I got impatient, and at 8 months pregs, was on a ladder painting trim with the urgency of a mad woman, because it couldn't get done fast enough for my taste.
