Thank You for Gift

It is so rude for someone to receive a gift and not acknowledge it. About a year ago I mailed a baby gift to my niece and she never acknowledged the gift. I felt a little hurt when I repeatedly saw her posting and mentioning gifts that her friends and closer relatives gave on FB. After about 6 months, I sent her a FB message and asked her if she received it. She responded that she did and that the blanket I sent was the baby's favorite. About a week later, I got a Thank you in the mail.
In this case it must have just slipped her mind. Still, I think that a thank you note should be a priority especially if it is a gift received in the mail and the sender has no way of knowing if the person actually sent it.

No, I think it rude for the person to recieve a gift and not acknowledge it's receipt! Who ever said it was rude to check if a person received an item in the mail. Mail gets lost all the time.

You could wait a little longer and then ask if the baby gifts you sent worked out?
I am with you.. Thank you cards are the way to go.. We just gave a cousin some money for her bday and got a thank you text.. my thoughts on the topic are. if a person can take the time to buy myself or my family a gift.. then surely we can find the time to sit down and write out a thank you note... in fact, my ten year old who plays the accordion sends out thank you cards to anyone who hires him... even IF we do it for free.... I just think good manners are never out of season...............

you have every right to ask those people about the gift..

I was also raised to handwrite thank you notes and I have done the same with my 17 yr old daughter. A gift is not used at our house until a handwritten note is in the mail and the turnaround time here is... received gift, immediately write a note and mail it.

If someone were to not get a TY note from me, they would know that we did not receive a gift because I am that particular with it comes to common etiquette.

My experience with mailed gifts is not too bad as far as knowing someone received the gift but if I have heard nothing for a while, I do follow up just to see if they got it. Shame on them if it embarrasses them by reminding them....they should at least have enough manners to somehow acknowledge the receipt of a gift. I also use the delivery receipt via USPS and when I use FedEx I have a tracking number so I know they got it, but I ask anyway.

Thank you cards are a thing of the past. No one does that anymore and I hate it, because I always make sure I send them out. The kids b-days, Christmas, I'm old fashioned. Most of my friends don't do this and I will call and ask if the gift I sent was received. It's all in the way you ask.....non chalantly, and just curious......"did you get the gift I sent"?

I was not brought up to send out thank you notes but I do usually try to at least call, text or email and say hey thanks!!!
