How do you check for a fever, reliably, without a thermometer?

on myself, sorry, and i would uses thermometer, if i had one, but i don't and its 11pm so... i was just wondering.
You can buy a cheap thermometer at any 24hr pharmacy or supermarket (baby aisle). They are less $10.
If you need to know this for an adult I honestly wouldn't bother. When I think I may be running a fever I will take two tylenol and go to bed. If your symptoms are worse than that you may consider a visit to urgent care. Most adults feel AWFUL if they are running a high fever, I mean truly AWFUL.

Honestly, you probably don't need to check...I doubt you would do anything differently. They say that your body sometimes should be allowed to get hot, that way it gets rid of the bacteria or virus that is making you ill. You didn't say why you needed it.
If you're uncomfortable, take Tylenol or Advil and go to bed, it will probably be better in the morning.
Well, there really isn't any reliable source other than a thermometer. I know when I'm feverish I get the chills, I feel cold and hot at the same time, and I feel out of it...but that's just me.
Please rely on taking a temp with a thermometer. I'll tell you why. Some children disguise temperatures extremely well. My 5 year old son has had a fever for several days. He's going to the doctor tomorrow. In any case, if it wasn't for taking his temperature, you would never know by just feeling him. My sister touched him and said, "He has a low grade temp of about 99." I took out the thermometer, checked him (rectally) and it was actually 104 degrees. So, touching your child is NOT reliable and although babies can tolerate higher fevers than an adult can, it can be risky, even dangerous for a fever to get too high without some intervention. Babies can become dehydrated with fevers. Sounds like you might be a first time mom. Call your ped if your baby is an infant/newborn with a high fever.
