My Little Guy just turned 9 months, started to crawl and is cutting his first tooth! Any teething tips? He doesn't seem too bothered by it...probably since he just discovered his new found freedom with crawling but I am sure at some point with all the teeth a' comin' I'll need some handy dandy tricks! Thanks other mamas.

Have some baby orajel, teething tablets, and teething rings on hand. When the teeth are coming in they'll slobber a lot and will enjoy having their gums massaged(with finger or teething ring). The orajel and teething tablets will help with the pain.

I'm allllll about the Hylands Teething Tablets - my son hated the orajel but as soon as he saw that bottle he knew relief was coming! And anything frozen but sometimes things are too cold for their little hands - cheap way is to wet a wash clothe and put it in the freezer or if he's eating solids frozen mini pancakes - good luck!

Hi Melissa my name is K. I live in California and am a stay at home mom! I am 24 yrs old and have a 5 yr old and a 9 month old too! Austin and Wyatt! Wyatt is starting to teeth finally too! Crawling everywhere and pulling himself up on stuff already! It's amaizing how they grow so fast! Alot of my friends babies are within weeks of Wyatt and they all already have 3 n 4 teeth so i thought Wyatt was behind! Glad to know he's just a late tether and not the only one! :) A life saver for me was baby tylenol and (Highland)teething tablets with Austin when he was teething! Also those little nets you put fruit n stuff are good if you put it in the freezer for a few with the fruit watermelon strawberries n stuff they love it cause it's cold and feels good on their gums :) Hope my tips were helpful! Good luck hun! Some babies you never even know the teeth come in, others can be a little tough cranky n fussy with small fevers! But it doesn't last too long!

They usually only have bad symptoms for a couple hours now & then and it's usually with top teeth only and well before you see it coming in. Once you see the white part popping through, the worst pain is over. If they get a temp. or diareah you can give tylonol. My son mostly drooled and was a bit needier than usual in the a.m. then by after nap he was fine. He did like cold cucumbers to knaw on, frozen bananas, wet wash clothe...

We've always used Hyland's teething tablets, possibly adding their Calms Forte 4 Kids, as well as a liquid calcium from Blue Bonnett or Lifetime (blueberry flavored), as calcium with magnesium is a natural painkiller and natural nervous system relaxant, so our kids had an easier time with teething and we still give them the calcium at night to help with growing and sleep. Not all calciums are created equal, so I would really recommend those things.

Wow! Sounds like you've got quite a bit of activity brewing all at once:) My little guy, Max, is 5 months and cut his two bottom teeth about 2 - 3 weeks ago. He's just now starting to be less fussy from it! Gosh, to be honest, I wish he had something to keep him distracted, cuz his teeth have bothered him so much. Anyway, I've found that the Hyland's Homeopathic Teething Tablets have worked pretty well. They're 100% natural and no side effects. Max takes them now no problem, they dissolve right on the tongue. I've taken one myself first and it dissolves in seconds. Other than that, I gave him baby motrin at night time to help him sleep and baby tylenol during the day. I tried my best to only use them when absolutely needed, but I'll tell ya, the little guy sounded so hurt from it and kept putting his hand to his mouth when he cried...broke my heart! Not to mention LOTS of teething toys...keep some in the freezer and some warm (cuz they're softer and easier to chomp/gnaw on); they like it all. Ok, those are my tips! Good luck:)

when your baby starts getting uncomfortable because of his teething at night and it starts to interrupt his sleep a lot, this worked for me as recommended from my pediatrician.
my son had lots of pain during sleeping and right before going to sleep. i gave him a dose of motrin 30 minutes before bedtime so it would kick in. in addition to the motrin, there are some natural teething tablets called hyland's teething tablets that i gave at the same time i gave the motrin. you can use them together. don't be afraid. and right before i put him down, i gave him a little bit of baby orajel. sounds like a lot, but it worked. my son got his teeth late. i think the bottom two came in after 9 months. by then their gums hurt more because they are tougher and it's harder for the tooth to get through. during the day, if my baby was uncomfortable, i just gave the teething tablets and sometimes the baby orajel. they are too distracted in the daytime so i don't think they feel the same kind of pain come night.
my sister in law would only give her daughter baby tylenol, but it didn't do anything for my son.
good luck.

Freeze carrots they are cold on the gums and soothing to the teeth and healthier than the teething rings. They won't choke on the pieces because normally they are small enough shavings.

water based frozen teeters, infant Tylenol(store name is just fine too!), orajel night time for baby's and the regular baby one and q-tips and some patience. :)

I would use the daytime one when needed, with Tylenol ever 4 - 6 hrs as needed for pain, fever, fussiness.

Use the night time stuff at night time.

Apply both orajel's with q tips so you dont get bit! And so you know its applied well.

Teeters get about 3 - 4. Then you can rotate them, at first if the baby doesn't like em put them in the fridge then work your way to freezer status.

And you will need to be more patient, baby's tend to not want to eat, sleep, be nice when they are getting teeth. Worse will be molars. But I made it threw it twice over all alone. You can do it. :)

Also take him to walmart and find a CHEWY kind of hard toy for him for outings and use that when your out, also get extra orajel and some q tips in a plastic bag with it for just in case and a small bottle of store name Tylenol. I go cheap in case I lose stuff while out. Plus hey it wont hurt your wallet.

Good luck.

My 9 month old daughter started getting her two bottom teeth two weeks ago. Yes, be prepared for diarrhea, as one of the other moms said below.

I bought the Hyland's teething tablets at Albertson's. Target carries them too, but at my Target they have them behind the counter at the pharmacy, so you may not see them in the baby section. So far the tablets have worked except for one night when I had to give her Tylenol. I saw my pediatrician for her 9 month check-up, and she said to use ibuprofen as it lasts 6-8 hours instead of Tylenol which only lasts 3-4 hours.

My daughter doesn't seem to like the frozen teething rings, so I haven't tried this, but one of my baby books said you could try giving them a frozen whole wheat bagel. They won't be able to gum off anything but small bits.

Hi, M....
I'm sure you're going to get these tips, but just case, I'll tell you, too!

We found that Hyland's homeopathic teething tablets work well. They are slightly sweet to the taste and dissolve nearly immediately in the mouth. You can find them at nearly any Walgreen's, Longs, Wal*Mart, etc.. Also, keep a frozen washcloth in the freezer. Simply soak a clean wash cloth in water, wring it out and then freeze it! Little gums are soothed by the frozen-ness of it, and as an added bonus, it'll sop up the drool and clean the face at the same time!! ;-)

Good luck with the little guy!

One item tht is really great is Hyland's teething pills. My kids are older, but I still keep some in the house for when they have toothaches. It is all natural, and will help tremendously.

Both of my boys went through teething without any major difficulty. For most of their teeth, if it hadn't been for the excessive drooling, I would not have known they were teething until I saw the teeth come through. The molars were tough, they had some real fussy days, but sleep never seemed to be affected (I did hear that babies who sleep well generally do not have too much trouble teething, and that proved to be the case with my boys - hopefully yours, too!)

Many moms highly recommend the Hylands teething tablets, we used those, too. I think for each child, we caved in to Tylenol twice during their whole teething process. I don't like to give that to my babies, but it does help when the baby is having a really hard time. Fortunately, that was not often. It seemed with my babies, there was either no trouble at all, or they were extremely uncomfortable (past the point where the teething tablets could help).

For the drool, I used terry cloth bibs that were pretty absorbent so we didn't have to change clothes too often :)

Enjoy his new toothy smiles!

Hi M., there are many things you can try such as teething tablets, my son loved it when i put the baby oragel and than gave him an icy pop to gum and suck on. It all depends on how the baby reacts. Oh and it's nnormal for the little one to develop a fever or have the runs. All you can do is be there for him and comfort him through these tough times. Good luck. I would love to here what works for him. Take care. S. c

Teething tablets are great. We used Chamomila in a 30c by Boiron and you can get them at any health food store or even CVS. They are homeopathic tablets and still work for my 10 1/2 year old who is getting his 12 year molars!

If you want to read a quick overview on Homeopathy go to www.bluedominoes.com

Hi M., First I want to say, that it is great that your son will always have someone at home with him, ( of course if everyone felt that way, i would have a job) I didn't not like medicating my babies, so instead of actually giving them the tylenol drops, i would rub the tylenol directly to their gums, that worked better than infant oregel. I also kept a spoon in the freezer and used to rub on their gums, one more thing i did ws to put crushed ice in a washcloth put a rubrband around it, and let them chew on it, they loved it. You sound like you have a great family. And you know one income is worth it, we raised our kids on one income, when they were growing up, I started a Home daycare when my husnamd retired from the Navy in 1996, I love being home with my kids, and I had so many friends who could not undersatnd hiw I could love being at home with my kids. My little guy is two now and at the time he is cutting two teeth.at one point we had four teeth all coming in at once there are these wonderful things called teething tablets and they disolve in their mouth, they take two to three at a time,
you can find them in the baby isle at walmart. My son would bite everyone because they hurt him so bad ,i would take a wet rag and put a litte bit of crushed ice in it and he would chew away ,and it actually helped his teeth come out faster!!!
Good look, you got a long road of teeth ahead of you!!!

Wet the corner of a washcloth and put it in the freezer, he will like chewing on that corner when the teething gets bad. And Tylenol is always wonderful, lol! :)

Hi M.,

It seems like you already have lots of great advice, but what helped me out a lot besides orajel was frozen blueberry bagels. The coldness helped soothe the pain and it was much less messier than those teething biscuits. Hope that helps!

the best thing that worked for us was those little mesh food holders you can find in the baby aisles. Put some fruit in there, freeze it and let him chomp away. Much funner than teething rings ;)
