My son is almost 8 months old. When he was 4 months, he got his (2) front bottom teeth. Until now, he hasn't had any more teeth come in. Now, he it looks like he is getting his eye teeth on the top. He does not have his top front 4 in yet. Should I be concerned? Or is this a case of "every baby is different"
Thank you for your help.

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses. I am not so worried anymore and I really look forward to seeing my son with his "vampire" look. I am sure it will be adorable and a great photo to use at his wedding someday- LOL!!

My daughter got her bottom two teeth and then got her eye teeth on top. She looked like a little vampire for a while (which was very cute) and then eventually she got the rest of her teeth. She is now almost three and her teeth all came in with no problems. I wouldn't worry about it unless they come in in such a way that they do not allow for the other 4 to fit up there.

Oh yes this is definitely a case of every child is different! Believe me, I have three and they've all teethed differently. My oldest boy had two bottom teeth when I took him for his first birthday pictures, that was it! My second, a girl, had a lot of teeth by then, at least her first birthday pictures show all of the front and molars too. My youngest so far had NO TEETH for her first birthday pics. She's now 20 months and has about 10, but I'm not worried about her considering that the first two have all of their teeth and my son has even lost several baby teeth and is in the process of getting adult teeth (he's now six). I'm expecting a fourth and have no idea how this one will teethe but I'm sure I won't surprised whatever happens!

Hi K.~
I agree with every baby is different and I'm so glad you brought this up b/c my youngest who is 18 mos has her two front teeth and two bottom teeth only to discover about a week ago that she has had a BACK tooth come in and I didn't even know it!!! I flipped out when I saw it. I just couldn't believe that with only 4 teeth that she would, out of the blue, cut completely through one of her back teeth. But it did help explain a fussy period she had recently had with a low grade temp, lol.

Now my 2 boys were "by the book" with their teeth.

HTH,
C.

Hey K.! I can understand how frustrating it can sometimes be when your child does not follow the normal curve. I am a part time Dental Hygienist and stay at home mom of two. Before having my own children, I was a text book kind of gal. The first to erupt should be the lower incisors and then the upper incisors, but since my own children did not follow this pattern I have changed my mind. The "normal" eruption is as I have stated, but indeed all children are different. I have seen some erupt the canines first even. I would say talk to your own dentist, have your hygienist look inside your child's mouth, but until two years of age I would not be hugely concerned if the front teeth have not come in. At about that point the dentist could take an xray to check for their presence. The reason I said ask the dental hygienist or dentist to look is because sometimes the child will have extremely thick gum tissue in that particular area and the teeth may need a little help coming in.

Hi K.,

I think it just really depends. My daughter is 11 months and her first tooth is just now breaking through. So I think some get teeth early, some later....

Have fun w/ the joys of teething! :)

My fifth child (now 9 months) got his two bottom front teeth, then instead of the top front ones, he got the two on the sides of those. He looked like he had fangs. It was actually really adorable. Now he has 8 teeth and is working on molars. (He is an early teether.) It all evens out in the end.

My daughter (just turned 2) did the same thing!! I was worried that there weren't any teeth under there! LOL! We were still waiting on her teeth to come in around Christmas that year, and my mom found a bib that said "All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth"!! Ha Ha! It was funny! But they came in eventually. I don't think that you have anything to worry about. You just might have a little vampire baby for a little while... :-)

You said it, every baby is different. My boys, ages 9 and 10 were the norm....I guess....teeth around 7 months, if I remember correctly....My now 2yo girl didn't get her first tooth until she was a year old. Every kid is different as well as what teeth come in. I've seen so many kids with so many different teeth come in different. Pretty neat. Nothing to worry about.

Every child is different and don't be afraid to give your child motrin for pain teething is painful...if your head hurts you get something for it...I was told this by a ped dentist it's more then my opinion on my own. You will notice your child being grumpy and sometimes a runny nose also it's normal.

Yep, it falls under the every baby is different catagory. The order and age is all round about. Even my own two were different. My daughter did 2 at a time and had all but the 2yr molars well before she was 1yr old. And my son had just about all (excluding 2yr molars) by time he was 1yr old.
