I have a 12 month old girl. She has only cut 2 teeth so far and is now trying to cut another two. I give her tylonal, and some all natural teething tables from walgreens. She will just spit out orajel. I have given her frozen popcicles, frozen wash clothes, frozen teething rings, and a few other things. Nothing seems to give her any real relief. She is so misrible. She also either wants to sleep all the time or not sleep at all. And now she has been sick to her stomache. I am sure this is due to teething but I am at my wits end about what I can do to help. Please give me some advise:o)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone for all of your advise. She does seem to be getting a little better now. I am getting her a tooth brush this weekend as well as some jerky. I just feel so bad for her. The two teeth that she has been trying to cut have still not broken the skin but she does act like she is feeling better.

I was told not to freeze things and give them to babies because it sticks to their gums and takes off the top layer of gum when they pull it away. My daughter likes her teething toys in the refrigerator though.
I agree that Motrin works better than Tylenol for my daughter and the Oragel sticks are great too. We also use the Hyland's teething tablets and they work wonders.

I tried everything with my son during his teething. The only thing that worked, & worked very well, was an electic tooth brush. He has used it so much I've had to replace the batteries twice. Just turn it on & put it in your baby's hand & she will put it right where she needs it.

We used carrots when the kids were yound it gave just enough flexability offered vitamins retained its shape and temperature.

Our pediatrician was deeply opposed to oragel (numbing agents in general) due to if it numbs the gums it numbs the throat possible causing choking with out being aware of the potential risks involved.

We also used the baby tooth brush starter set it came with a nubby the graduated to a real toothbrush there were like 3-4 stages in the package i believe it was a gerber brand NUK at the time but again 12 and 15 years ago but i again saw them when my friend just had a baby. Walmart is where I was then but i am sure target sells them as well as do most drug stores if you can not find them have the store do a special order it does not cost anymore. Seems like I saw them in with the toothpaste isle with the baby toothpaste w/o floride and also in the baby hygene isle they are hard to find just ask

good luck getting your peace back i am sure the little one is exausted as well ya might want to try the baby massage lotions to try to calm in other ways to try to divert attention from the mouth to the relaxation in other parts of the body

Tylenol is a pain med but has no anti inflamitory I would use ibuprofen (baby Mortin, advil ect...) it can be more pricy but will help with the swelling its all worth a try

try the pediatrician as they might be able to give an oral pain med to help get through this time

let us know

W.,
Hello and Good Morning. You might try using Baby Ibuprophen, instead of the tylonal.

I'm not sure which brand of natural teething tablets you tried from Walgreen's, but I've gotten good results with Hyland's homeopathic teething tablets (it may take some hunting to find them or going online to find them--I get them at Jennifer's Pharmacy in Clayton, which carries a lot of herbal and homeopathic stuff). Also, putting a little vanilla extract on the gums can numb them a little bit. I would also check with your pediatrician to make sure that teething is all that's going on, if you haven't already. Good luck!

i know its probably to late to help but maybe this could help other moms. with my 2 kids and now my grandbaby we used a gel called little teethers it has a cherry taste and yes i tasted it! between the little teethers gel and the actual baby teethers i gave them tylenol every 6 to 8 hours and motrin every 4 because thats what my ped suggested you might want to try it just may help. dont give them frozen toys though because thats like putting your tongue to a flagpole in the middle of winter and you wind up with more pain than you started with.

Hello W.! Teething is a nightmare and sometimes it seems like it lasts forever! My daughter is 16 months old and she is getting numerous teeth right now all at once. The molars are the worst too! All I can say is just keep up with the motrin and the teething tablets, I disolve 4 tablets in just a tiny amount of water and put it in the suringe to give to her. My daughter had a binky so that would help her out too. She had her days where she was hurting so badly that she had a horrible temperature and she wouldnt eat or anything, she just layed on my lap all day long sleepy off and on. Thats all the advice I can give though, but the best advice is just to be very patience!! :) Good Luck!

I recently went through the same thing with my 14 month old. I fought with him 4 days with his gums swelling for a tooth to come in, which never actually came in to this day it's still under the gums. I did all the same things as you have and he would kick around in my arms screaming for an hour on end stretching his legs really tight, so I figured it was his stomache on top of it. I don't know if this would help, but try giving her some baby milicon drops along with the teething tabs and orajel.

I agree with trying to rub her gums with your finers. That's all that I can think of. Have you called your pediatrician?

Sorry I can't be of more help!

My son had a rough time teething. He felt best if I rubbed his gums with my finger where the teeth were trying to cut through. He also liked the Gerber brand Biter Biscuits. They are hard cookie type sticks that taste good and are easy to hold onto. He didn't like cold things in his mouth at all and preferred to chew on a wet wash cloth in the bath during water play. Good luck!

I found that ibuprofen (advil, motrin) works better for teething with my children than tylenol did. It is an anti-inflammitory and helps their swollen gums. The oragel sticks are great because they can't really spit it out. (they look like q-tips and you apply directly to the area.

You said you froze things...try the paci. If she still has a paci my kids loved for me to throw it in the freezer for a little bit and let it get good and cold.

It sounds like you have tried just about everything. My cousin had a daughter that went through the same thing. I know it sounds crazy, but she used beef jerky. Her daughter LOVED the taste of it, and it didn't hurt her a bit to chew/suck on it. It is so tough that a 12 month old can't bite off a big chunk so there wasn't a choking hazard. Anyways, it's worth a try. I know how frustrating teething cna be.

Not sure what else to try. But I have been told that the orajel actually toughens up their gums and to never use it. So I have actually never put any on any of my four children. I have been told by other's to buy one of those little bottles of whiskey and rub that on their gums when teething. They say enough on your finger won't hurt them. But make sure it's no more than that. But I've never done that either. I've only done teethers and tylenol. Oh and the cold wash cloth thing. And I do believe that the stomache's can be a side effect from teething.
