My son has been teething horribly for the past month now, he actually has two bottom front coming in at the same time. They both have broke through but he is in soo much pain, eats one bottle a day and barely sleeps. Any home remedies? Ive tried the tablets, the teething rings, orajel...etc. Does anybody have any other ideas?

What can I do next?

try giving him one of those popsicles that are in the plastic tubes- just leave it sealed

the cold makes his gums feel better and if he DOES happen to pop thru it, you know his teeth are in! LOL

and its non toxic ;)

I use Melaleuca alternifolia oil which is wonderful for teething or any pain in the mouth. It is different than orajel or numbing medicines. It is all natural and will actually help the teeth and gums be healthier.
If your child has been this much cranky for a while you may need to check with your doctor.

The best thing, the only one thing that would completely quiet my son was an electric toothbrush. I tried everything. The pain releivers helped, the homeopathic stuff, but the electric toothbrush gave instant releif. I just turn it on & put it in his hand & he puts it right where he wants it & sits quietly for long periods of time. He has even fallen asleep with it. It was also fun to see his reaction to the electric toothbrush the first time he was introduced to it.

I know that you got a lot of great suggestions but, I have a few others that have helped me with my boys. They have both been hard teethers and unhappy kiddos. Frozen waffles work great thaw quickly and tear apart fast. Childrens tooth brush, they chew where it hurts, you can also put orajel on the brush and then they get it where they need(works great after they have some teeth, that way you don't get bit). My Aunt is a Dr. and she suggests rubbing the infants/childrens motrin directly on the gums and that will help with the swelling instantly. If you are having trouble getting your little one to sleep at night you can use a little dimetapp, helps them fall inot a deep enough sleep with out knocking them out.
Good luck!!

Throw the pacifier in the freezer long enough to make it really cold and give it to him. He'll love it!

Hi A.!

Sorry to hear about your little guy.
My suggestion, give him a wet and/or frozen wash cloth. The babies like to chew on them and they are rough enough to help break teeth on thru. I would also recommend that you give him Infant Tylenol, the dose varies on his weight. Your doctor can advise you of the appropriate dose. If you give that to him that will eleviate some of the pain that the poor little guy is feeling. Alot of the times teething has associated symptoms such as; diarrhea and not wanting to eat etc... This is why the Tylenol would be helpful.
If he doesn't bite you, I would also massage his gums were you see them turning white and swollen.

Hope that helps!
Take Care,
F.

Have you tried a frozen washcloth? Get one wet and stick it in teh freezer. Another idea that isn't really popular is booze. I've always heard Jack Daniels, but I don't think it matters. Stick your finger in whatever kind of alcohol and rub it on their gums. The alcohol numbs it, plus it makes them sleepy. A lot of people say it's bad, but it's not like you're giving the kid a shot and I think as long as you don't overdo it the child will be fine.

Hello,
I agree with most of the advice given so far anything frozen worked most of the time with my kids. You might try Infant Motrin, it has an anti-inflammatory and pain killer, plus it works for 6-8 hours instead of 4 hours like tylenol. I don't give my children meds very often, but sometimes when nothing else will help the pain it is worth it for your baby and you. I usually reserved the pain meds for night time so they could sleep. It is hard to see them in pain.
Good luck

When my kids and my daycare kids were teething, the only thing that worked for a few hours at a time was Melaleuca Oil. Most people know it as Tea Tree Oil, but there's really good oil and just okay oil. I HIGHLY recommend it! Doesn't taste the best, but boy does it work great!

I used Tylenol for the pain, plus it may help him sleep a little, and orajel at the same time. My son never took to any of the teething rings, but frozen washclothes helped with his teething also. My son will be 1 in a few days and has 5 teeth, he teethed them 2 at a time to get the first 4. Its hard seeing your little ones in pain, so I understand. Hope this helps.

Have you tried frozen bagels or bananas? My daughter loved both of those when she was teething. She also liked chewing on frozen wash cloths. I would wet them first, wring them out really well, then place them in a cup in the freezer. Another thing that both of my children liked is the vibrating teether. It's a star shape that vibrates when they bite on it, with a non-vibrating handle. You can find it at Walmart, I believe. Hope that helps!

ours broke 2 teeth at a time also, the only thing she would tolerate was frozen bananas in those vegitable nets. We got a bunch of spare nets and had them all in the freezer at a time because she'd go through 2-3 a night.

I've always used tylenol and in the worst cases motrin for the pain. I got told by the doctor never ever use orajel when my oldest was teething because it toughens up the gums and makes it take longer for the teeth to come in. So the child ends up hurting more. I've had probably every kind of teether. My daughters really liked the one that vibrates. The vibration soothes their gums. My son is pretty satisfied with just tylenol and chewing on all his toys. He just got his first broken through the skin last week and the other bottom is getting closer. But a wash cloth soaked in cold water helps too. I got told to use ice, but that scared because of the possible choaking. So my sister told me about using a wash cloth. It's easy for them to put in their mouth and the colder water is like the ice.
I also have been told, for so many years by so many people, to use whiskey. That just rub the gum and it'll help. But I've never been able to bring myself to do it to any four of them. So I guess it's a remedy too. But I can't vouche for it and really would recommend against it.
