My son is almost ten months old and has not one single tooth. I'm not too worried. did anyone else have a late "teether"? He eats everything in sight like he has a mouth full of teeth and he still nurses so I'm thankful on that part.
Thanks
Shant'e

My daughter was 11 1/2 mo. before she got her first tooth. When I asked the doctor about it he told me that to only be concerned that if she hit 1 yr. with no teeth. Some kids are just late when it comes to teeth

Hey Shant'e
I've got you beat my 10 month old has no teeth!! There are plenty of toothless kids out there. I have heard the longer they wait to come in the stronger they will be... but also more painful coming in.Good luck

I have 2 daughters that both where 19 months old before the first tooth. At 12 months i took my oldest to the pediatric dentist. they where in the gums just did not push thru like most babies. nothing to worry about. my oldest finally lost her first tooth right before her 7th birthday. Hopefully that means healthy for life!

My 2 sons, now 5 1/2 and 2 1/2 were both late teethers. I think it is genetic and is not a problem at all. My oldest got his first tooth at 12 months and 2 weeks old and my little guy got his first tooth around 11 months and change. Both had all their teeth between 2 1/2 and 3. I nursed them too and was grateful they got their teeth late.

Good luck.

My youngest son did not get any teeth until his first birthday and then he got 4 at once. Nothing to worry about they will all come at once. I looked at it as the later they come in the longer he will have his baby teeth.

My daughter squeezed out just one tooth a week before her first birthday! And from there she slowly got the rest of her teeth although she did have a different teething pattern than normal, but her teeth are fine. I also have an 8 1/2 month old and she doesn't have any teeth yet either. : )

If your pediatrician is not concerned, I wouldn't worry either. All kids are different and they all get teeth at different times. Sometimes they can take weeks or months to pop thru the gums.

My cousin's daughter got her first tooth at 13 months. They say that it's hereditary and my dentist says it really doesn't mean anything. He did agree that teeth tend to fall out on the same type of timetable that they arrive. However my cousin's daughter was one of the first kids in her class to lose a tooth at 5.5 so perhaps that isn't even a set rule.

PS-While the idea of teeth and nursing may be frightening, it's not a big deal. My first got 2 teeth at 4 months and nursed till 13. My second nursed till 19 months and had a mouthful by then.

Both of my kids did not start cutting teeth until about 9 months old. The real deal began around 10 months and then they cut 4 teeth at a time. Don't worry. Every child is different. :)

My son (who is now 6 1/2) did the same thing. He was 11 1/2 months old before his first tooth popped up. After the 1st one they came one right after the other, and he wasnt as fussy as my daughter is who got her 1st tooth at 7 months. I wouldnt worry about it at all. My son has very good teeth right now and the only thing he is angry about is that he was in the only one in kindergarten that didnt lose a tooth while at school. Just remember that each child is different and if your nursing I would be thankful that there are no teeth yet. Enjoy the time of not having to fight a little month open to brush those baby teeth. Goood Luck.

Nothing to worry about! My 1rst daughter didn't get her first tooth until 11 months, and then didn't get any more until 13 months. She is now 3 with very healthy teeth. My 2nd daughter got her first tooth at 6m, and now has 8 teeth at 12 months. Every child is truly different. I've always heard the later the better, and I can personally attest to that, having breastfed both girls. The occasional accidental nips from my little one are not fun, so be thankful for that toothless mouth! :)

It's a running family joke, but my cousin didn't get her first teeth until she was 3! After that they all seemed to come through in rapid fire, which I'm sure wasn't pleasant. All kids progress at their own speed and teething is no different. I'd say count your blessings as you're still nursing and ask the pediatrician if you're worried.

My daughter was 10 months old when she got her first tooth. Her teeth came in a little slower at first, and they didn't fall out...the first 4 teeth she "lost" had to be pulled because the adult teeth already were in, behind them...but now, at 13, she somehow is ahead of the game and her mollers came in before many of her peers' did!

My first daughter did not have the slightest sign of a tooth until she was almost 1. Her teeth came in very slowly after those first 2. She had trouble when her molars came in, but her teeth are great. I too was still breastfeeding, although my girl was not a great eater.

Our other daughter eats everything and started teething at 7 mos, quite a change! They came in very quickly too. Every kid is different. Your son's doctor would have said something to you if he noticed anything wrong, so I would say you are right not to worry. Good for you to still nurse. :)

There is nothing to worry about. On the contrary..it is much better for him that he has the teeth later on. My first child had her first tooth when she turned one. She has never had any problems with her teeth. My second child had her first tooth at 6 months. I've been with her to the dentist more often than I would go. The older they are, the easier is for you to brush them.

Hi! My son did break a tooth til he was 11 months. He's 18 months now and has 6 all together. His doctor said it's highly variable and really depends on when you and your child's father got your teeth. Trust me, they're up there!

my son did not get teeth until he was eight months old. the average is 6-8 months. he will be cranky when the teeth come in. do not worry that is something to be glad about. if he is drooling alot or it looks like he has a blister on his gums then he has a tooth coming in. when he does get the teeth give him baby tylenol because he may get diarreha and run a slight fever which is totally normal. enjoy your toothless son.

Hi,

My son is the same age as yours and he only has 2 teeth. The only part that makes it frustrating is that he wants our food and he doesn't have any teeth to chew..I am not worried either, I just feel bad for him b/c he is ready to move on to bigger and better foods!

Hello! My daughter is now 10 months old and is finally starting to get her first tooth. But yes it is normal to have late teethers there is never a set time for nature. You may want to find out when your first tooth came in and also your husbands and that may also give you an indication to when your baby will get there first tooth as well. My 14 yr old son didn't get his first tooth till he was almost a year old so its different in every child. It just takes time I guess but not a big concern but watch out cause when the first one finally comes in then the others will follow just as quick. My daughter is not only cutting her first there is also 3 more following......lol Yay she is one cranky crabby apple big time.....lol Hope this helped!

Hi S.!
My daughter started drooling profusely at 2 months old, and I swore she'd get her teeth early! Boy , was I wrong! She was ii months old when the first one came! I always heard that the later the teeth come in the better, and so far she has beautiful teeth! Not only is she cavity free at age 11, but so far she doesn't need orthodontic work! ( Thank GOD!!) i guess getting the teeth late allowed her mouth to be big enough to accept the teeth without crowding them. My son got his first at around 8 months, and just got a pallete expander for his upper mouth to make room for a tooth and to correct an underbite. So don't worry about the teeth coming in late!!

Don't worry. My daughter was 12 1/2 months old before she got her first tooth, and that one came in on top instead of the usual bottom! That same week, she got two more teeth. So, don't worry, your son's teeth will come.

My daughter turned 10 months old on the 20th and she didn't have any teeth either. She was also really good at gumming her food to death. But a few days later 2 teeth started to pop up. Also my cousins daughter didn't get any teeth until she was 13 months old. So hang in there, those teeth are coming!

My daughter didn't get her 1st tooth till she was 10.5 mos old (it was actually her birthday gift to me!).

They say that the later a child gets their first tooth, the better. Not only are they usually better at dealing with the discomfort but the teeth are healthier, as a rule.

Beware though that when he finally sprouts one that he may be getting a bunch at one time or one right after the other. That happened w/ both my kids a bit--especially my daughter.

Also, you know that you'll be able to nurse without problem once he does have teeth, right? If you need more info on it, you can look it up on www.KellyMom.com

My daughter was also a late teether. She got her first bottom tooth toward the end of 10 months. She's now 14 months and only has the two bottom teeth and the two top teeth. The top ones still aren't all the way down yet.

You're not alone!

Hi! My daughter made it all the way until 10 months without any teeth either and then both of her bottom middle teeth came in at the same time. She is 11 1/2 months now and hasn't had any more surface yet. So hang in there, they will pop up soon.
PS- I asked my doctor about it and she said the lastest she has ever seen any baby get their first teeth was 18 months! But that is pretty rare.
