Teething - Conyers, GA

I have a 10 month old who is teething badly. He doesn't like the cold rag, teething tablets, gripe water (old school remedy), baby oragel or letting me massage his gums. He's a paci baby, so when he's irritable he won't let the pacifier stay out of his mouth long enough for me to do anything. He is keeping me up at night for hours at a time. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem being up with him if that's what I have to do. I just wanted to try any other remedies that may be out there so he can be moe comfortable. I have to give him tylenol to quite him. I don't want to have to keep giving him tylenol. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

homeopathic teathing tablets have camomile which is calming....my mother in law told me to do camomile tea. My son hated it, my daughter loved it. Worth a try.

Try freezing the pacifiers. I did that with a couple of my sons and it helped. He loves the teething tablets from Highlands though. You can also try freezing carrots if he likes them. Hope some of this helps.

Motrin works much better on oral pain than tylenol try motrin.also try filling his pacifier up with water not all the way leave a little air in it then freeze it. and let him suck on it. to put water in it fill up a bowl with water and stick it in there and squeeze it and it will fill up.

edited to add:
I forgot about gumamile oil you can find it in your health food store. its by herbs for kids , you just rub it on their gums like the origel but it works much better and longer than the origel

Don't know if you've tried this but for my 8 month old he seems to like the biter bisquits. Also try finding a teething toy that vibrates.

Honey if he is that uncomfortable don't stress yourself out any be so bothered by using tylenol. You can also use childrens motrin and you can use them in conjunction with each other, tylenol every 4 hours and motrin every 6 hours the teeth won't last forever and the meds aren't gonna hurt him but the teething does. Just try to think of his comfort and not get too hung up on thinking that your druging your child that is what it is there for! I hope it goes well I am very aware of what your going through I have twin 13 month olds and they both are getting their one year mollers on top and bottom and I know when I have a headach or toothache I want relief so I give them that same opportunity to not have to endure pain good luck!

My mom used frozen waffles for us. She said it really helped. I had a friend suggest those Popsicles that come in the plastic wrap with no stick. You freeze them, cut a very small hole in the top, and let them gnaw. That way only a very small piece will go into their mouth, and there is no threat of choking, but the cold can help with the soreness.

At night, my pediatrician recommends a "teething cocktail". Tylenol, Benadryl, and Orajel given about thirty minutes before bed to help him sleep. Also, look online for teething pacis. They have teething surfaces added to the nipple, and sometimes on the plastic part as well, and they seem to help a lot.

One thing I bought was a rattle that also vibrates when the baby bites down on it. It is a yellow star with and blue base. You bite the star and it vibrates. My daughter loved it! She sill giggles when she bites it for fun. I want to say it is made by the first years company. I got mine at babies r us but I have seen them at publix and other places.

we used ice in one of those mesh feeders. It worked for a while. Recently I've been giving her freezer pops to chew on - she never actually opens them, just chews on the colorful coldness from outside the package.
The other thing we use regularly is Hylands Teething Tablets.
Good luck.

you know giving him Tylenol is okay even if you give it to him every four hours it will not hurt him. I was told with mine not to do baby oragel. I don't want to come across as a know it all mom because I am not. They sell these mesh type pacifiers in Babiesrus where you put fruit in the mesh and your child can hold it themselves by the ring. We use to cut up fruit bananas and freeze them and then put them in the mesh and let our kids sit in a bouncer or exersauser or highchair and knaw on it and wow it really helped. Also baking soda on the gums numbs the area the first second or two it taste well you know not that great but it helps also if he ever has gas baking soda it a great alternative to Mylocon. I am a mother of 8,4,2 I hope your little guys gets some comfort and you get some sleep.......

My daughter's pediatrician recommended letting her "chew" on an apple slice or a piece of celery. He said that the juices from either one would help numb her gums during teething. Haven't tried this since she hasn't had any troubles yet, but thought it was worth mentioning. Hope it helps.

I know this sounds weird, but my pediatrician said rub a little whiskey or vodka on their gums. I did it on rare occasions and it works temporarily, much like oragel.

I find motrin works much better than tylenol in this case! Teething is a horror, but unfortunately we all have to deal with it at one point or another. It's hard when they wake up multiple times during the night and more so even because they are in pain and we can do little to help them. Just make him as comfortable as possible, keep trying to get the orajel on his gums, even if he fights you all the way, cuz that helped my daughter a lot. You'll get through it and then ANOTHER tooth will come!!! My daughter is about to pop out her 2 year molars, she's 20 months. She started teething at an early age of 3-4 months, so i've been at it for awhile. It'll be over soon, i promise!! GOOD LUCK!

I would ask your pediatrician if he/she has anything to suggest. My daughter was a horrible teether too and would be up all night. Ibuprofen or Motrin did work much better than Tylenol, but our ped ended up giving us a prescription for a teething solution that absolutely did the trick.

Try an ice cream bar. One of the pedialite ones or the kind that come in the little plastic tube and you have to freeze. I gave that to both my kids, and they loved it. Hope this helps.

I have to be honest here!! I called my grams for this one! My lovely Southern Grandmother as my son refused!! to accept Oragel or anything in his mouth! and she SAVED ME!! She simply said "Jack Daniels".... nope don't let him drink it...i simply dipped my pinkie in it and rubbed it on his gums ...have no clue on what the magic is but he slept like a baby and was happy until those teeth broke through! I have a 25 yr old step daughter who called me in tears last week...I simply told her "Jack Daniels!!" she called me the next day to tell me thanks!
So take Grams words for what they are worth to you! She saved me! I love ya Grams! 1910-1998

I too have a 10 month old son and it seems like you have pretty much tried everything. I too have had the same problems about two months ago with my son and at my mothers recommendation I gave him washed and peeled carrots just the giant pieces of course nothing he could swallow. But this seemed to work for him, because he liked to chew on cold things. It satisfied his need to chew and soothed his gums with the cold. Good luck to you hang in there it passes.

Hi C., my son is 13 months and he to is a paci baby. My friend has 7 children of her own and I was having trouble with my son and teething, she told me to put one of his pacis' in the freezer and when it get froze give it to him.. It helped out a lot! you may also try whiskey, just put a little on your figures and rub is on his gums, his ped. will say no to this because of it being alcohal, but bad in the old days they use to do that and it worked wonderful. I dont see why they still don't do that. lol I hope this helps you!
