My 14 year old has physical & mental delays and he is ADHD. He is now in full blown puberty! He is growing hair on his genitals and the problem is that he scratches all of the time. He has now scratched a sore spot on his testicle. We have tried lotions, powder, and different underwear and he still scratches & says he can't help it because it itches. Help!

What can I do next?

It sounds like jock itch. There is over thc counter treatments for this. One of my boys had this problem. If you use the product by the directions and it doesn't go away, then I would go to the doctor and get it checked out.

What kind of lotion did you try? Anything that isn't frangrance free may make it worse! How about something for jock itch? Also, Sally Hansen makes these little pads for women to use after shaving, those might help because they treat and prevent bumps and itch from growing hair.

Could it be a yeast problem? If so you could try some Lotramin cream or if that does not work maybe some hydrocortisone cream would help. Here is a list of creams that I found in an online search that you could try: Anti-itch Lotions and Creams (e.g., for athletes foot, jock itch, bug bites, poison ivy) Bactine, Caldecort, Hydrocortisone, and Lanacort, Calamine Lotion, Benadryl Cream, Caladryl, Cortaid, Lamisil AT, Lotramin AF, and Micatin

If it contimues you may need to call his Dr. and see if he needs to be seen to make sure it is nothing serious or they may be able to give you a prescription for something stronger.

Good luck,
A.

Take him to the doctor and see if you can get a perscription for a hydrocortisone lotion. It'll help with the itch and it's a bit stronger than you can find over the counter.

I would take him to someone who can actually help. The DR could give him a cream to help the problem.

Maybe try some inexpensive anti-itch cream with a little steroid in it like cortisone10 (or the generic) That way if he has a little rash or irritation it will clean it up. Another solution would be to try a little cream like an anti-fungal. Could be something like jock itch. Good luck. Oh and if its cause of the hair growing in and anti-itch will still provide some relief.
