Teen Voices Magazine? Other Good Magazines for Teen Girls?

My nieces are 14 and 16, and I was thinking that a subscription to a teen girls magazine might be a nice alternative to the endless gift cards we always get them for Christmas or their birthdays. I recently read a book called "Packaging Girlhood" that recommended a magazine called "Teen Voices" that discusses more substantial issues facing teenage girls than the fashion, make-up, boys, mean girl drama focus of magazines like Cosmo Girl or Seventeen.

Does anyone have a daughter who subscribes to this magazine? Do they like it? Or does anyone have recommendations for other magazines that might appeal to teenage girls that aren't quite so, uh, fluffy and ditzy as the Teen Vogue variety?

Teen Vogue is not in the same category as Seventeen and Cosmo girl - Teen Vogue is great for any tween and up interested in fashion - it doesn't have the "articles" like the other 2 do - my daughter likes to design and make clothes so it is a great resource for her - also, think about what the girls hobbies/interests are - I'm sure there is a magazine for it

My daughters gets readers digest she is 16 there are funny articles and good stories, my younger daughter on occasion will pick up a soccer digest her sport of choice
I would look into other magazines that are geared toward an interest. Sports, scrap-booking, hand crafts those kinds of things.
Also what about a museum or zoo membership for the family instead then they can all enjoy it all year? Good luck!
