Target Generic Form of Enfamil Formula

Hi,
I noticed Target has a generic form of Enfamil formula- "Target Brand" and has a chart on the back with all of the same ingredients as Enfamil. Is it really the same thing in a different can? Has anyone used this? A lot of things I've read have stated that generic formulas are really not that different. Thanks! -J.

So What Happened?

I've done some research and feel much better now about this decision. It appears most all generic store brands are made by PBM Nutritionals, www.storebrandformulas.com. "the only ISO 9001:2000-certified infant formula-manufacturing facility in the country."
There is a press release that states that in 2005, they remade the Sam's Members Mark formula to include the same ingredients as Enfamil, they manufacturer Walmart's Parent's Choice, and looks like Target and every other store brand. Additionally if you go to www.parentschoiceformula.com, (Walmart formula) you can compare nutrients and see that the whe to casein ratio is the same of Enfamil :
"The proteins in the milk based formula are whey protein concentrate and nonfat milk, the whey to casein ratio is 60:40, like mature breast milk."
Looks like it is pretty much all the same as far as ingredients!

When I put my son on the Target Gentlease brand, I noticed he was more constipated. I like the Enfamil better.

Infant formula is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) so it is all required to have certain standards whether it is the name brand or store brand. When I told my pedi that I was giving the Family Choice brand from Walmart to my twin boys, her exact words were "Good for you. Save yourself some money instead of giving it to Enfamil." Don't in any way feel that you are giving your child inferior food or nutrition, they are great products. Infact, if you look at the manufacturer name on the back of the target cans, you'll find it's the same as the Family Choice from Walmart so I suspect they are made in the exact same place but given the different store labels. So, keep in mind that store brand is cheaper at Walmart than Target. And also, both my boys spit up a lot less when we left Enfamil and went to Family Choice.

Hi J.,

I'd say it's about the same exact stuff. We use the Sam's brand of Enfamil and we haven't had any problems at all.

I started using it when my son was about 5 months old. He seemed to have no issues with it. The ingredients are the same. Wal-Mart also has a Parents Choice brand that is similar. My son seemed to like the Target brand better.

We have used it for the entire year....my doc says it's' basically the same. Our daughter in on the one that enfamil would call "Gently Ease"....No problems, and she's doing great.

Hi, my pedi told me that any of the store brands are fine, in fact thats all I buy for my 4 1/2 mo old daughter. He did tell me never to buy the sams or costco brand though. Apparently they use the "recipe" that enfamil used 20 years ago!

The Generics are generally always the same. We started using the Members Mark (Sam's Club Brand) version of the Enfamil Lipil when my son was 6 weeks old and it is great. You get a 3 pound container for $19.38, which is super cheap.

We used it with both of our children and they are both fine. It worked great for us and was so much cheaper! Our youngest is moving to whole milk soon so we're almost done!

For us we noticed as soon as we opened the can that it wasnt the same. It had that wet sand look like other formulas besides Enfamil had which was harder to mix without the nipple getting stuck as well as we went through it faster we noticed too. Plus my daughter threw up more. To save a little on Enfamil I jsut started going to Sams/Costco as I could get a HUGE can for $29 that lasted us quite awhile.
