I think the test varies on the age of the child and also from school district to school district. My daughter was tested in the 3rd grade and then we moved before the result of the test arrived...the new school district didn't recognize the results of that test. I finally was able to have her tested(after much talking and her desire to be in the program) when she was in the 6th grade. She loved her class and learned so much. She is an awesome writer and communicator. Hang in there with the test for your son and if he doesn't do well you can always have him tested again. I think it is especially important if this is something that he is wanting. Good luck...let us know the outcome of the test.

My son just got tested. I tried asking him what kind of questions they asked, but being a boy who could care less, he just kept saying i don't remember. lol. But the one thing he did keep mentioning is they would show lots of pictures about which is larger, smaller, etc. He said they showed him a picture of the sun and the moon and he had to say which was bigger.

I agree with the previous poster. There really is no way to prepare for GT testing. It is typically done over the course of a few weeks. This depends on the school and how buys the GT Specialist is, however.

I have a second grader and a fourth grader both in GT. The second grader wasn't placed there until first grade. The specialist said that she didn't "show signs" of needing to be tested the first time. I didn't realize at the time that I could request that she be tested anyway. So in first grade, I asked again and she was placed in the program after being tested.

GT isn't just about academic intelligence. It's much more. Relax, there's no need to practice for the test. Just continue to do what you've been doing at home with your child. I wouldn't even mention it to him beforehand.

okay, first, please don't subject your son to that kind of pressure. i'm assuming this is the six year old mentioned in your sig line????? and a G/T test is not a "normal" kind of test that you can "study" for. please let the child's own talents and abilities shine through without "prepping" him.

There is no need to try to test them. It's really pass or fail. My son took it last year and missed it by 5 points. He's being retested this year. Whether he passes or not, he's still gifted and talented and extremely bright in my book....he taught himself to write at age 3 and began reading his 2nd grade brothers spelling words at 4.

Don't worry and don't pressure him.

In all due respect...Either you are talented and gifted or you are not. You can't study for this type of test. I agree with the last poster..don't pressure your son. Continue to do things like go to musuems, travel, read, do puzzles with him, play games, etc. This is more beneficial for him and will give him the life experiences he needs.

The GT test shouldn't be something he prepares for because in the end, if he passes the test only because he studied for it, he'll end up suffering in the GT classes because they are too hard for him. Let him take the test and if he passes, great! If he doesn't, no big deal. And at his age, he can always retest. Some kids can be early bloomers and moved into GT classes before they are ready and it actually ends up being bad for them. I was in GT classes in DISD in the late 80s and I knew kids in my class who suffered because they were moved into GT classes too soon.
