I have been on depo for about 6 months now, and the last two months I have had pregnancy symptoms, I have been on some antibotics and I know that it can decrease your birth control. My boyfriend thinks that I am, but I am not sure and I am scared to take a pregancy test when I know I need to. So I am wondering if I am or not?

I have been on depo for about 2.5 years. I would suggest that you call a dr or even go to a free clinic. Depo mimics pregnancy hormones in your body. I have random nausea, weight gain, breast tenderness. My dr says it's side effects of the shot. See what your dr says.

I took depo for about a year...then decided it was time to stop & see what it was like. I was in my 20's and felt like I would fall over and break a hip! (bone density felt lower for sure.) I got pregnant immediately after, but it was planned. Depo has some icky side effects-it is a long acting progestin, so you are fooling your body into preventing other hormones from releasing. (Although I cannot be 100% sure, I now have a progesterone deficiency and have to supplement. I think it's from all the years of birth control... it's not natural and my body got out of homeostasis, or rather it found a new homeostasis from years of having to balance itself out with all the man made supplementation.)

Go to the doc and get a test, maybe switch to something else...I practice fertility awareness method (neither my doc nor myself think hormone birth control is the way to go). Even if you are scared, you need to find out so that you can have the best early care if you need it. It will all be okay, just get your test to know for sure.

Good Luck!

Depoprovera does NOT work the same for all women. It only works part of the time in some women and not at all in others. There is a large majority of women for whom it works well.

My oldest child was conceived on Depoprovera. The doctor, who was stunned, asked me if I planded to name my child vera for a girl and depo for a boy considering the Depoprovera had failed. Good thing I wasn't actually taking strictly as a birth control...It was more to help out with other femal issues (which didn't work either).

However; you do NEED to take the pregnancy test to find out if you have conceived. If so, you need to STOP your Depoprovera usage IMMEDIATELY... Do not go in for another shot. The chemicals in the medication can cause issues with the pregnancy, baby or both (you could get lucky and nothing happens) if you continue to get the shots and you are pregnant.

So, yes being pregnant is a definite possibilty even on the Depoprovera. However you need to get pregnancy tested right away!

Good Luck... ;-)

Please take the test to see if you are so you can immediately start getting the care you and your baby need if you are pregnant. As for can you get pregnant on Depo - you can get pregnant on anything. That is why they always say 99% safe because as with any drug, there is always that small chance you will do the opposite like in the case maybe - get pregnant. With my second child I had a period for 5 months and didn't know I was pregnant at all. Didn't gain any weight but maybe 2 or 3 lbs. and like I said I had a period for 5 months and felt great. Then I got sick and had to go to the ER and that is when they told me I was pregant. I had been on birth control for 5 years at that time. Good Luck to you which ever way you wish it will go, but do take the test. It will also get you over your worrying.
