Taking a Poll on What People Pay for In-home Babysitters for Full Time Childcare

I live in a northwest suburb (Oakland Co) in the Detroit metropolitan area. I would like to know what rate people pay in-home babysitters (not professional nannies, although if you have information on this I would like to know that too) for full time childcare (at least 30 hours per week). Do you pay on a hourly/weekly basis? Has the economy impacted the going rate? This is for an infant, if that makes a difference. I am not looking for the lowest common denominator here - I am interested in paying a fair rate for good care. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have an adult babysitter... about 5 hours a week.. 2 different days 2 one day and 3 the other day. I pay $10 an hour for my son. I would pay a little less if it was all one day, but my schedule doesn't allow me to do that. I live in North Oakland county.. if you live near Lake Orion I know someone that does a SMALL day care at her home.. she has typically 1-3 kids at a time and it GREAT!

L.,

I live in Rochester Hills. We pay 10$ for a college aged babysitter, for occassional outings. I have a 5 year old and 18 mos old. I paid 8-10$ an hour, when it was just my son.

My cousin uses an Oakland Univ. teaching student two days a week to watch a 4 and 1 year old from 8-4:30 and pays 80$ a day.

I pay about $425 a week to send both of my kids to Premier Academy-- a new school/daycare located at the intersection of Rochester and Snell. The school is WONDERFUL. I would encourage you to check it out. Currently there is only one other "infant" and she is soooo loved and cuddled throughout the day.

I live and Troy and have a "nanny" (she is in her 20's but not thru an agency) that watches our twin 2.5 year old girls three days a week - she has been with us since they were born. We started at $11 an hour and are up to $13. When we have my college-aged cousin watch our girls at night we pay $10/hour. The main reason for the difference being that our nanny during the day cooks, cleans the kitchen after meals, occassionally folds laundry and straightens up the house. I just spoke to a friend in B'ham who was quoted from $11 - $15/hour for a nanny to watch her newborn son.
Hope this helps!

i live in macomb county and watch one 1 yr. old girl for $30 per day. a friend pays $25 per 1/2 day for 2 kids.

when my husband and i go out in the evenings, we pay a high school sitter $6 per hour.

I babysat as an adult before i was married, and was paid $8-10 per hour. this was not full time. just for weekends, etc. as a nanny, i made $9 per hour. these were people who preferred an adult sitter.
