What types of table food should I be feeding my 9 month old? Her doctor told us to go ahead and start feeding her table foods. So far I have only given her white rice and some macaroni to try. She is still breast fed and also formula fed, and she eats cheerios and gerber snacks, as well as level 2 fruits and veggies and rice cereal and oatmeal. What about 3rd level jar foods?

I agree with the other responses that she can eat really anything within reason. I used to cooked frozen mixed vegetables and put a tablespoon or so on my kids tray or dish. Also soft fruits such as bananas or watermelon cut in small pieces work well.

After my first few jars of the Stage 3 foods, I never bought them again. They just didn't seem appetizing. It was so much eaiser and tastier just give the little one some of what we were having or cook a little plain pasta or vegetables for baby.

Good luck and don't forget it can take several tries of a new food before the baby actaully eats the food.

Hi! Really she can eat anything just chop it into bite sized portions. My son pretty much skipped the level 3 because he hated all of it!! He just turned 11 months and eats everything except the obvious choking stuff! and honey and nut stuff! I started out with him eating like cooked/steamed veggies and I boiled chicken in apple juice and cut it into tiny pieces thats his favorite still :) good luck!

One of my daughter's favorite table foods was avocado. We would slice it in half, take out the pit, and just spoon feed her from the skin. She loved it and it was pretty convenient for us, not to mention healthy! She also devoured blueberries (we would cut them into quarters at first). Those were some of her favorite first "real" foods. Good luck!

Our pediatrician's advice with our daughter (now 21 months) was different than it was with our son at the same age (now 3.5 years).

As long as they can chew it, they recommend trying foods in small quantities. At that age, our kids had yogurt, string cheese, mixed vegetables (frozen and then heated), thinly sliced deli meat (ham, turkey), cans of vegetable soup (like the reduced sodium ones), kidney beans, small bits of hamburger meat (ground turkey is much better for them).

I never purchased a single jar of level 3 foods for my kids. The only real differences are larger quantities and slightly chunkier consistency.

Ask your pediatrician about honey and nuts. Ours closely follows the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics and said it was OK almost a year ago. Here's a link to their current recommendations:

You will probably find that very soon she will start resisting baby foods as they are just to sloppy , I wouldn't even bother with stage 3. She can now have a variety of foods , pasta , veggies , fruits , cheese , toast , pancakes....the list goes on. During dinner try putting her aside some of what your having (within reason) nothing too spicy or stongly flavoured. Lasagne is good , as it pasta & meat sauce , Man n Cheese. Sweet potato fries were and still are a hit with mine.

Good luck

Anything and Everything except egg white, shellfish, peanut products and honey (these are your call though on whether you want to wait, but they are the recommended foods to wait until after the 1st birthday).

We skipped level 3 jarred foods for cut up pieces of "real" food. Try offering her anything from your plate, within reason. No honey, citrus, or nuts. But you could give her cheese, the rice and pasta you have already offered, fruit like bananas or blueberries (my daughter loves them so much we have to speak about them in code!), bread, etc. My little one likes cornbread, and that's a good flakey thing for her to get her hands on, and it crumbles so little chance for choking.

I also like the website suggested. Lots of good suggestions there.

Oh, and yogurt. We like yobaby. Also right now they have a promo that if you buy 4 packs, you get a free Leapfrog book.
