Table Food

I know they say every baby is different, but I'm starting to feel mine is very different. I haven't encountered another baby yet who is nine months or older that doesn't eat table food. Mine still prefers baby food. She will occassionally eat chex or goldfish, but that is maybe two or three a day if that. We give her plenty of tastes- she has tried foods like mashed potatoes or mashed beans... or pretty much anything we are eating that is okay for her to eat. She hates all of it. I'm starting to wonder if she is going to ever like the taste of table food. For now it is easier for her to gobble up the baby food because then it is no prep time for me and I don't have to worry she will choke or something. I'm with her all the time- a SAHM- and I know her and I know this is normal for her, so I am not concerned about her development. I simply want to know if any other moms had kids that weren't too fond of table food for a while.

What can I do next?

My case is very different! My daughter stopped eating baby food at 6 months! She wanted to chew! She didn't like it if she could just swallow it! Babies are all different, you will know when she is ready! What baby food are you giving her, 1,2, or 3? One thing you can try, id making your own baby food, and just gradually make it a little thicker, and then this may teach her to eat table food, since table food is a lot thicker than most baby food! Good Luck!

E.!!! You are not alone! My son is 9 months old and barely table feeds at all. He just chews on those pinwheel things but doesn't really swallow anything. The first few times he tried to eat table food, he choked on it, so I think he's tramatized! I have no advice, just wanted you to know that your baby isn't odd!

My son still doesn't like table food and he's four and a half. He is very particular with what he likes to eat. My 18 month old daughter on the other hand will eat anything at least once and didn't ever like baby food - just wanted table fod from the git go. So, she will let you know when she's ready. And sometimes it takes 3-4 tries on the same food before they develop a taste for it. good luck and hang in there - before you know it she will be eating you out of house and home!

My daughter wasn't interested in table food until she was almost a year old. Around 10 months we gradually switched from baby food to those toddler "graduates" (ravioli, stew...)and she started to eat them. One day she suddenly did not want to eat any baby food at all, or nothing that resembled it (like mashed potatoes or applesauce). Enjoy your baby while she's still a baby! We miss that!

I don't know if it makes a difference or not but we make eating together a big deal so the baby eats when we eat and he really wants in on the action. I still have him on baby food but I also puree what we are eating if it is within his menu of things he has already had. I also serve one baby friendly item at each meal so that if he wants to join in he can. We also put the food just out of reach so if he is curious he can reach for my drink or my plate to let us know that he wants to try it. I also let him taste just about everything in sliver form or dabbed on my finger as long as it isn't a known allergen. So far he hasn't snubbed anything except tacos. He likes spicey foods.

My son was like that. He wouldn't even eat the cheerios. Everytime I tried to introduce new foods he would gag. It got to the point where he wouldn't even try new foods. His doctor recommended a speech therapist and he was diagnosed with oral sensitivity and a very strong gag reflex. Starting out we would just put a cheerio in with a spoonful of baby food and he eventually got used to it. Then with the table foods we were eating we would just mix some with his baby food. Like spaghetti, he wouldn't eat the kind I made but he would eat the baby food. Regular spaghetti had too much flavor. But if I mixed it with his baby food he ate it just fine. He was also sensitive to certain textures. He didn't like sticky stuff on his hands and he didn't like the feel of the carpet on his feet. But he's doing alot better now. He eats regular oatmeal in the morning and peanut butter sandwiches. Now I'm starting to introduce fruit.
And he is starting to walk flat on his feet instead of on his tippy toes.
If this is something your really concerned about you should talk to your daughters doctor. But like everyone else has said all babies are different in a couple months she may decide that she likes table foods.
