So my daughter who is three yrs old has a swollen bug bite. She was bitten early this morning on her wrist. At first it was like a regular bug bite. This night i was giving her a bath and i noticed her wrist.I quickly washed it and it got bigger.I then put on a little bit more itching cream
And the swelling went down a little.bit.I need some home remedy to help bring the swelling down.Should she also see a doctor?

What can I do next?

If it seems like a mild bite, and she has no symptoms other than some swelling, you can try mixing baking soda with water to make a paste, then put that on it. That's what we always do for bug bites. When I was young, a mosquito bite on my leg could make me swell up enough that I couldn't even put on pants!

If it starts swelling like crazy, filling with puss, gets hot, discolored, etc. I would take her to the doctor.

If red streaks start coming out of it, head for the ER.

Baking soda paste works great but if the swelling doesn't go down try a paste made from meat tenderizer and water. Insect venom is mostly protein and the meat tenderizer breaks down protein.

Got any Benadryl? Or any antihistamine will help. Use according to her weight.

Rub a raw onion on it. Just don't let your daughter rub her wrist on her face. Cover it up with a band aid after you rub on the onion. It will take the swelling down.

It's going down now so it's on it's way out.
But the next time she gets bit her reaction to it might be more severe and you would definitely take her to ER if she has trouble breathing or shows any signs of anaphylactic shock.

This happens to my husband and it scares the heck out of me.
Years ago he got stung by a bee on his right hand between his fingers.
His hand and arm up to his elbow swelled up like Popeye - the skin was stretched tight and it felt hot.
He didn't have any breathing difficulty so we didn't go to the hospital but he did take some Benedryl and the swelling went away in about 24 hours.

Corn starch baths help, and so does a paste made of baking soda and water. Try not to rub it in though, because the rubbing activates the itching. Put a dab on the bite, and put a bandaid on top. Or, if you have an anti-itch cream that can be used on kids (ask the pharmacist), put it on the bandaid and then place the bandaid on the bite with no rubbing.

If it's mosquito bite, it won't last long. If it's a spider bite or something from a biting fly, that may be larger and hot to the touch. I don't know what kind you have near you, but we get greenheads, deer flies and May flies (a version of the larger black flies common to New Hampshire) - their bites are much nastier and more painful. May fly bites can cause a huge welt - I've had them 4 inches across, very itchy and very hot to the touch.

You can try ice if she'll sit still for it. You can have her wear thin cotton gloves at night so she doesn't scratch it.

If there is any sign of infection - pus, a hard white center, or severe spreading redness (with or without fever), don't fool around with it. Same goes for a bulls eye ring or anything radiating out of it - be seen immediately.

Yes, please take her to the Doctor. Also, she may be allergic, or it may be a Brown Recluse spider bite. Those can be deadly, eat away parts of the body and even cause death. I would definitely call. Good luck!

Bug bites, I use liquid roll on deodorant - yes it helps itching and swelling - no clue how or why though.
