Anyone who can offer some reassurance, or insight...

I have found a small lump, that hurts to touch, at my right groin/pelvic area where my hip/pelvis adjoin. This hurts to touch, and seems to have come up out of nowhere.

Please keep in mind that I'm alraedy pretty anxious about some other physical problems I'm having and have recently had tons of labs that turned out normal.

Is it possible that this is a cyst, or hormonal, or an infection of some sort? Any suggestions or reassurance is welcomed. I already have a well check with my gynocologist on Thurs of next week, so I guess I could address it with her then, they also plan to ultrasound me at that time, for re occuring right side ovarian cysts...

thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

As the other responders said, it does sound like a swollen lymph node. In that case the swelling means its doing it's job fighting off an infection and the pain is a good indication that the lump isn't something more serious.

Hi,
I am not a doctor so this is in no way a guarantee ok? 2 weeks ago, my son had severe pain in the same area. The er doctor said that it was an intestinal virus that was causing his lymph nodes to inflame. Gave him a script for vicodin and sent him off. So, imho, it is possible that you are experiencing the same?

Not sure if this is the same thing but I had a sensitive lump that came out on the left side of my groin/pelvis area. It turned out to be a hernia. It also was the reason I found out I was pregnant, therefore I didn't go through any surgery. Mine went away and has yet to come back. Does it retread when laying down for awhile and return after being up and walking around for awhile? Good thing you are getting checked out by an professional. Never can be too safe. Good luck.
BTW hernia's become a big problem when they start to strangulate your bowel, so if the pain becomes worse I would get into see someone ASAP.

I agree with the other mom's. It's probably because there is infection somewhere. Pain is usually associated with simple infection. Just like when you get a sore throat and the lymph nodes at your neck swell.

based on experience and not medical advice ... sounds like a boil/abcess to me ... don't squeeze it. Use heating pad until it drains on it's own in a few days. definitely call obgyn if fever or redness/swelling start to spread. these are pretty common in that area. obgyn can drain it and give you antibiotics if needed. it never hurts to call the nurse for advice!!

I have had this happen to me beforeand completely freaked out about it. I had a full testing of every std known done--all negative. Then I went to the emegency room to have it checked out. It turned out to be an ingrown hair. They lanced it, drained it, pulled it out, and packed it with gauze. I hope that is what you have. Go to the ER and have it checked there. Good luck!

Is it possible that you have an ingrown hair? Have you shaved there lately? Is it on your pantie line? If it is sore, is it red and even warm to the touch? If so, sit in a hot bath (as hot as you can stand it, for as long as you can stand it). If a head develops then do not press it together like a zit but pull away from the middle to release any fluid that may be trapped.
If it feels like it is more toward the inside and not the pantie line, then definitely have your doctor check it out as soon as possible.
Best wishes to you!!

Makes me think of hidradenitis suppurativa. I have this and get recurrent cysts in that area. They hurt. It is due to retarded sweat glands actually and is triggered by hormones from menstrual cycles, etc. Your derm would be able to diagnose this. Not too uncommon. But again, your doc will help you. Wouldnt worry at this point, these things are usually harmless.

Sounds like either a swollen lymph gland as others have suggested (have you been sick lately?), or possibly an ingrown hair or one of the other suggestions. Even though you already have an appt, I would suggest calling the gyne today and telling her about this, because you may need extra time for 2 "problems" and it will help the office with scheduling. I've heard of doctors double-billing for two problems, or refusing to listen to a second problem and requiring the patient to make another appt, so just a heads up.

I can't tell from what you wrote if this is on the surface or internal. If it is on the surface it may be a boil/infected swaet gland. If it is more internal and you feel it when you push in on the skin, it may be a lymph node which is a sign of infection inside the body.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

Sounds to me like a lymph node. I have had this happen to me before. It's your immune system trying to deal with something. It's not something to ignore, but at the same time, it could just be your body's way of fighting off a virus of some kind. Keep an eye on it, and if you have other symptoms start, I'd go see a doc. But it being swollen on it's on... I'd give it a day or so to see if it goes back down. Mine usually do.

I get these cysts/boil-like areas in my groin area that are super sensitive (since they are usually right where my underwear hits) and also on my breasts, chin/neck and behind my ears (many women get them in their armpits as well), but after so many coming up and going to several different doctors about them, I finally went to a dermatologist and was diagnosed with hidradenitis suppurativa (affectionately known as H.S.- very under-diagnosed because doctors usually just say "oh, that's a boil"). I guess it has a lot to do with the sweat glands...I tend to get them more often when I shave my bikini area. I usually have to either poke a pin in them myself to get them to pop (yes, very gross) or I have to go to the dermatologist and have them lysed...this really gross, thick pus comes out. If you go to your GYN and they say they look like boils or cysts, you might want to make an appointment to see a dermatologist as well to see if you might have H.S.! There are lots of creams and body soaps and such to help control them if that is the case!

I do agree with the other gals as well, it might just be a swollen lymph node as well! Just ask your GYN at your appointment!

That's exactly what I have - a 2mm benign cyst on my right ovary filled with fluid. I'm on a 3-month watch while I take medicine that will hopefully shrink its size.

Good luck!

Sarah,
It may be as simple as an ingrown hair. I had one once. My doc told me to put a warm compress on it or take a warm bath. I used a wet washcloth for a few minutes at a time. It worked like a charm! Hope you're all right!
