I am getting a playgroup together for the summer to meet at my HOA pool. We are looking for someone to give swimming lessons to the group. The ages will be from 3 to 8 years but most in the 4 to 5 age group. Please let me know if you know of anyone that may be interested in this. I am in the area around Western Center & 35W.

What can I do next?

Hi J.!

I didn't know you were on MamaSource... I haven't talked to my friend yet about her daughter teaching swim lessons, but I will soon. I've also got a couple of other ideas I'm going to look into.

Great to see you hear!

Hi-

I train children ages 6mos-6yrs old aquatic survival skills in The Colony (not far from you). Please feel free to check out my website for more information (www.mybabycanswim.com or the national website at www.infantswim.com).

Just to give you more information about the program: Lessons are one-on-one, Monday-Friday with each student for a maximum of 10 mins per day. It typically takes 4 to 6 weeks for your child to complete the initial lesson series.

Survival Float
Babies 6 to 14 months old are very active and surprisingly quick! The Rollback-to-Float program introduces the correct floating posture for survival as well as the skills necessary to maneuver into a float. Babies learn quickly from their physical environment. This is how they learn to crawl and walk. But water is an unforgiving environment. For this reason aquatic survival skills for the infant and toddler must be taught by a certified ISR instructor. These skills will be practiced for complete mastery even while fully clothed with diaper and shoes. All lessons are taught one-on-one for a period of 10 minutes daily, Monday-Friday. Approximate class length: 4-6 weeks.

SWIM-FLOAT-SWIM Ages 15 months to 6 years
The Swim-Float-Swim program encompasses the skills necessary for a child to reach the steps, edge of the pool or shore. This includes swimming and floating. This process begins with teaching the child breath control and the skills to turn around in the water to grab the edge. As the child becomes capable of longer swims the rollback-to-float is taught so the child can rest and breathe, and then continue swimming. This sequence can be repeated indefinitely until the child reaches safety. These skills will be practiced for complete mastery even while fully clothed with shoes and diaper for those not toilet trained. All lessons are taught one-on-one for a period of 10 minutes daily, Monday-Friday. Approximate class length: 6-8 weeks.

You might want to check with your local YMCA. Ours does group sessions in your own pool. I forget the rates, but it seemed reasonable. I'm not sure if everyone offers it, but it's worth a look.
