I am looking for a "Mommy and Me" swim class. My daughter just turned one and I would like to start getting her used to the water and swimming. I work full-time, so I am looking for a class in the Metrowest area that would take place on the weekends. Saturday morning would be perfect.

What can I do next?

Hi M.-
Last year I did a swim class with my 18 month old at Suburban Athletic in framingham-- it was great: nice facilities, good insructors, and not too long (about 30 minutes)-- sometimes classes are 45-60 minutes, but the little kids (and moms!) seems to never last that long. Here's the link:

This year I'm doing a swim class at Longfellow Club in Wayland-- they have a "drop-off" class (I don't have to get in the pool!) once the kids are 2 1/2, but they also have a mom-and-me tot class either saturday or sunday at 11am:

Finally-- check out the metrowest YMCA in Framingham. I haven't been in yet, but they're just completing a huge renovation, so it should be really nice:

Have fun!

The YMCA in Framingham has Saturday classes. There's also Suburban Athletic Club on the south side of Framingham. Both have very good swim programs. I will caution you that Suburban's pool is 4 feet in the shallow end, where the Y's is about 3 feet. It made a difference for me where I went because I'm only 4' 10", so I couldn't do classes at Suburban. I would have drowned my poor kid. ;-)

Good luck.

Last Winter, my daughter had just turned one, I took her to Boston Sports Club in Franklin, MA, right off 495. It was a Saturday class, the facility is very clean. We looked at other gym/swim classes and I feel like this place was by far the nicest. You sing songs and they introduce swimming techniques, kicking, bubbles, etc. My daughter was extremely comfortable in the pool this summer and we continue many of the techniques we learned in the bath. We will be joining again this winter.

Try a YMCA. Depending on where you live, there is one in Framingham, MA and one in Franklin, MA.
If you don't get into this coming session (starting Sep 8 at the Y in Franklin), the next one starts at the end of October.

My kids (and I) have been swimming at the Longfellow Club (Wayland) (they are also in Natick) - and we love the instructors and the instruction there. I've spoken to many friends about where their kids have learned to swim, and I think Longfellow's Aquatics program is one of the best. I did the mommy and me class with both my kids and at 3 & 5 they are now both strong confident independent swimmers.

M.... Try the Metrowest YMCA. There's one in Hopkinton and Framingham. We are taking our 7 month old for lessons starting this weekend. I believe they have a mom/dad and me swim time as well. It's a great place for other programs as well. Good luck!
