I did Infant Swim Resource (ISR). It is 10 minutes a day for 4-6 weeks. My son, at the age of one, learned how to flip over onto his back and float for an indefinite period of time, how to flip to his belly to find the wall, how to flip to his back to breath, how to manuver to the wall and how to grab the wall and hang on. It was amazing. This organization takes into all the safety measures for kids...health wise and such. They monitor the childs diet and bathroom habits to ensure that the child is physically okay. It is not about play, it is about safety. A year later, my child still retained the skills. We allow him opportunities in the water to practice going under and into a float. This organization has saved many a child's life. Check out there website. I used Diane Cutri, located in Brandon, as my instructor. I will have her teach my second child this year.

ISR was what my daughter took. I would recommend it to anyone. She was 18 months when she completed the course. She is an excellent swimmer now, which she is 12. The one thing that is a downfall is my daughter cried and as a mom sometimes it was hard, but she had fallen into our pool twice and her crying was a wonderful noise to hear when you think of the alternative. She was exhausted when she was finished with the lessons which was a great time for mom to clean the house after swim lessons. I would certainly say definately do it. The money is nothing compared to what your child will get out of it.

Hi there,
This is my son's third "Mom and Tot" session at Seal in South Tampa. He is 18 months old and can swim underwater and float on his back without assistance. They also offer private lessons. I highly recommend them.

Here is a great company that doesn't just teach your child to swim but to survive! It is really amazing. They teach using real life situations , like having the child fully clothed with shoes on , there is a video on that site that first chilled and then amazed me.
Look for the "Miles video" not just the one on the link here.

I agree with the comment in Infant Swim Resource. My 6 month old went through the 6-week intensive course and can now float on his back. At 1 year, they teach the child to swim-float-swim and climb out of the pool. It was $105 to register with ISR and $70 per week for the instructor to come to my house for lessons. Her name is Cindy Horrocks and she's AMAZING. There are also a couple other teachers of ISR in S. Tampa. Just go to the website and do a lookup. In my opinion, it's the BEST way to teach the child to swim.

Good luck and thank you for being such a good mom to want to do this for your little one!!

Private is the way to go. I used to teach private swimming lessons and LOVED it. Now that I'm a mom, it's kinda pointless b/c I'd have to get a babysitter so it's not cost effective at all. I was on www.clubswim.com for a while. Your 1st lesson is free so there's no obligation. I wish I knew a good private instructor for you. If you call the city pools, you can often find a lifeguard who is willing to go to your house and teach private lessons. Make sure you get someone with some experience in doing private lessons though. Even the young teenagers are good.
Infant Survival Research is good too. I used some of their techniques. Your one year old needs survival skills more than "beautiful" swimming now. I haven't heard of the place in Tampa you're thinking of though. Good luck.

All my kids have taken lessons at the YMCA. In the winter time, the enrollment is low, so it seems like semi-private lessons. I think they do better with other kids, but it really depends on your child.

Hi! my daughter did Seal in Tampa (north dale mabry) and in Tarpon. Both centers were great, I did one-on-one lessons with the swim-coach, and it was great. I highly recommend them. You'll love it. I did.
