Any suggestions for a good swimming lessons program? My son is 3. I have heard good thing about the Y, but I'm not familiar with them. Any recommendations?
Thank you everybody for your help! I decided on some private swim lessons at the JCC. His instructor has been great! Its a bit pricey, but so far, so good. He has had about 6 lessons so far, and has gone underwater a few time successfully. He is also working on kicking, and some arm technique, and I dont expect him to learn to swim all by himself by the end of the lessons, But I have a good idea of things to work on with him!
Both my kids took lessons at the Hubbard Family Swim School. They are great with the kids and I highly recommend them. They have a location at 32nd St. & T-bird and another at T-bird & (I think )83rd Ave.
I highly recommend Hubbard swim school. They have several locations in the valley. We go to the one at 32nd ST and Thunderbird and all of the instructors are great with the kids.

My little girl just turned two and I have been taking her to a lady in town who does the ISR for the last two summers. She started when she was 6 months old. I have to say - it is awesome! My little one is already a good swimmer and very comfortable in the water. She floats automatically now - even in the bath tub. It is amazing to watch. It really shows how much it makes a difference when I see here in swimming with other children who are even older then her - how relax she is swimming shows and how well she does it. I can't say enough good things about ISR.

We are going to the Hubbard Swim School (http://www.hubbardswim.com/). They have several locations in the valley and they are just great. My daughter (4) loved all the teachers she had so far, I think there were 3. They worked great with her to overcome little snags like when she was determined not to put her face in the water.
Having sat on the hot deck of an open pool, I appreciate the nice indoor waiting area for the parents : )

Sara, the only suggestion I have is the Y, but my son took lessons there last year when he was 15 mos old. Also if you are a member then you and your husband can also use their workout facilities and the one I go to has a great kids daycare. Good luck. K.
Infant Swim Resource. They are awesome- www.infantswim.com. They are private one/one lessons for 10 minutes a day - 5 days a week for six weeks. It is a survival type lesson at first - basically how to teach a child to roll over and float should they fall into a pool. They move from there teaching swim basics and again, I can't say enough wonderful things about this program. My started lessons at 19 months - she is now five and has been swimming the length of the pool for the past two summers. Good luck.
my daughter takes lessons at the Y. They have been very good and affordable.
I have not been impressed with the YMCA swimming lessons. My daughter took lessons there for a while until we switched to another place where her swimming took off and she started to love lessons. When she was going to the Y, she often complained about going to lessons and wasn't learning much. If you were in MN, I would have lots of recommendations, but unfortunately they're all local. Hi Sara! We love the Rio Rancho Aquatic Center! They have classes, or open swim times! The prices are VERY reasonable and the facility is EXTREMELY clean and the people are sooooo friendly! Good luck to you!
Look into local private companies. They have more one on one help and are sometimes cheaper!
We go to Teacher Lynda's swim school on 79th ave and Olive. My daughter has been going there since she was 3 months old, we loe it and they teach a lto of good skills.
