Sweat Stains on Scrub Tops

I recently noticed that the armpits in my scrub tops have sweat stains on them! I was apalled to see this because I didn't know that I sweat that much. It has left the white outline mark and also has the small hint of sweat smell. Can I wash a load of my tops in vinegar to get this out? If I do this is white vinegar or any vinegar in general ok, and I'm guessing I don't add laundry soap to the load? I have seen other posts that people have used vinegar in their laundry and other cleaning to get smells out. I have multicolored tops and don't want them to fade or anything so any help would be appreciated. I also don't want to be the smelly lady at work that people talk about behind their back! I guess I will start reapplying deodorant during my lunch hour!! LOL!!

What can I do next?

It is deodorant stains, and I had the same problem in my clothes. I was not able to get them out, but I didn't try very hard. I too, switched deodorants and have not had a problem since. I've tried both the Secret and Dove (?) Clinical Strengths and neither compared to Certain Dri. With the first two, I wasn't able to go the few days between applications, where I could go up to 3 days without reapplying Certain Dri.

Sorry, I'm no help with the clothes. :{

Hi T.! I use vinegar in every load of laundry to keep it smelling fresh. You do use detergent too.
If the vinegar doesn't work, you can try adding Borax or washing soda to your laundry. Borax is available at Wal-Mart. I have purchased washing soda at my grocery store.
Good luck!

It is from your deoderant. Vinegar is safe to put in your laundry. It actually sets dye and if you have a bright top it will be good for it. I use it when I buy clothes that tend to bleed, like jeans. I prewash them with vinegar to set the color and keep it from bleeding all over my other clothes.

Could the white stains be deodorant stains? I'd pre-treat the stains with your laundry soap and then add 3/4 to 1 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle. I put it in the fabric softener holder in my front loading washer, of course I don't add liquid fabric softener to it. If by chance your washer doesn't have a place for liquid fabric softener then I'd invest in a Downy Ball( under $2)--bought one at Walmart recently for my son. I add vinegar to all of my laundry now and it doesn't seem to hurt the clothes any......
Good luck,
Renee

T., have you switched laundry detergents lately? I ask because I had always been a Tide user and someone told me that there was another brand of detergent that was just like Tide. Unforutnately, they could not remember the name. So when I went to the store I looked at all of the detergents. Whisk and Tide has the exact same patent numbers on them so assumed that it must be Whisk. I had never had arm pit stains before and every single one of my teenage daughters shirts now had an armpit stain.

I gave away my Whisk and ran out and bought Tide. After several washings with Tide the stains faded. I will never switch brands again.

Good Luck

Sher

I would try the white vinegar first. That stuff is awesome for cleaning just about everything, it will even disolve bubble gum from carpeting!!

If that doesn't work, I would then try fels naptha. It is a bar, and I usually find it with the laundry stain remover section of Walmart. You just get it wet, and scrub it into the stain, and let it sit on there for a while, then just wash your clothes like normal.

Hi T.

My name is D. L., I am not in a position to tell u what u can do to remove the stain or to help with the stain in general but what I can advise or probably recommend is a deodorant by the name of Aloe Ever-Shield Deodorant. It whitens under your arm, it do not stain clothes and moreso it helps prevent breast cancer and it also cleanse u with all the impurities.

I have seen many other moms say to put stained clothing out in the sun for awhile and the sun takes the stains out. As far as others using clinical strength deodorant, yes they work great, but are awful for your body. Deodorant in general is very bad for your body, but the clinical strength deodorant does not let your body sweat and that is very bad for you. Good luck with the sweat stains!

I think the vinegar idea will work well - I started using the "clinical strength" deoderant now sold at Target etc and it costs more but works awesome!!

I would try 1/2 cup white vinegar in with your normal load including soap. I just put the vinegar in my rinse cycle. I use it for every thing, and I have never had a problem with fading. Good luck!

Just a random thing: I never had sweat problems, but when we moved to WA and had a well with very hard water, even after we got a whole system water filter, both my husband and I had sweat stains for the first time. The people who installed our system said that with hard water, bleach can actually worsen sweat stains on white clothes. We even had sweat stains on our pillows (ew, I know). Now that we have city water, I can bleach and wash to my heart's content with no sweat stains--but those were just the byproduct of where we lived.
