I have two sons one is 7 and he is a very bad Asmatic and one is 9 with Tourettes and ADHD... It is getting so overwhelming for me I do not no what to do. I feel like I can't handle it anymore... Why do these things have to happen to our children. Life is difficult enough. To top it all off, you have people in this world that need to add unnecessary stress to our life, just because they have nothing better to do in their life. I need god more then ever. Help.

That sounds rough, K.! I have one child. she is 15 years old with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism), ADHD, OCD, and ODD. It is tough! She just went to a new psychiatrist today and we are now tweaking her meds. She also is going to group therapy once a week. It is very stressful with all the running around. Not to mention my own health concerns.

You can e-mail me any time!

K.,

I am sorry. Lifes stresses are enough without compacting that with children, then adding extra specialties to them.

My brother was diagnosed ADHD and we started an all natural no artificial dye diet with him and after awhile, it worked. Of course, it took some time as his system needed to be cleared out of these stores of artificial junk. It was pretty simple, all fresh fruits and veggies, pastas made of protein (like beans) not flour, nothing at all with artificial dyes/sweeteners/emulsifiers etc., and nothing processed. His hyperactivity slowly disappeared to 'normal' boy behavior and with this his attention span grew.

I have read but have no experience with tourettes, that it can be treated with diet in a similar way, perhaps lessening the bouts and severity. Talk to a homeopath or nutritionist in your area.

Lastly, asthma... my husband has asthma, very serious and bad. He was treated with steroids and inhalers and other mainstream meds. He still suffers to this day. My stepson had asthma as a young child but my husband refused steroids and mainstream meds and his lungs became stronger and he no longer suffers from asthma as an 8 year old.

I hope this was helpful.

Hi K. T.
I'm a Mother with 3 children with food allergies and environmental allergies as well. I know first hand how frustrating and aggravating it is to have children with health issues. If my older two boys, ages 11 and 8, were not on the gluten-free, casein-free diet, they would have ADD/ADHD. My daughter (age 6) would have severe asthma if not for the medical treatments that she receives. Have you ever considered looking at possible food issues to relieve behaviors? Also, have you removed all scented products from your house (perfume, scented shampoos, scented cleaning products and laundry products)to help with the asthma? If there is any way I can empower you, I would be so honored.
Love,
L. L.

Hi Cathy,
You know life is very complicated and it throws us more and more complications. I am personally also going through many difficulties but I have no choice but have faith. We cannot give up no matter how hard life beats us up. There is a reason why we are putting up with everything life throws at us. We might think it is absolutelly unfair but cannot change the situation.
Please don't give up and thank God everyday for all the Good things you have. Many people around the world are asking the same question you do , you are not alone.
Try to stay positive and always smile as though nothing is wrong and eventually this situation wil resolve.
Thats a promise.

Take care.
Best Regards,

A.

You're absolutely right you need GOD more than ever; but also He's there and not giving you more than He knows you can handle... even though sometimes you think it is. I've been through both- not exactly the same way. My son was a terrible asthmatic. We lived in the hospital every other weekend since he was 9mos. (Turned blue 2x). Prayer WORKS! He is 20yrs. old (6ft 8 & approx 350lbs. solid) and breathing well. Take each day 1 at a time- and be your child's advocate. What I mean is learn what medicines do and you make the choices. P.S.- Jello, Black coffee, a lil' Coca-Cola help. As for Tourettes, a young lady worked for me that had a severe case. I don't know the extent of your child's condition, but she verbalized with cursing and racial slurs, and physical twitches. It was difficult but you have to trust it'll be ok. It takes extra energy but I would take a moment to educate those around me that seem taken back. I think it may give you some strength to feel that empowerment. Be strong & grateful... and always Be blessed!

I have asthma. What has miraculously helped me is EMERGEN-C. It is a vitamin packet with 1000 mg of vit c. Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine. I hardly take medicine anymore. But asthma is deadly so you must keep your meds on hand at all times. I am going to try alternative medicine as well as I hear really good things about it.

Good luck,
A.

Kat,

Please don't worry it gets better,

BELIEVE me,

First off, are you sure your child has ASTHMA< and Not Allergies

My best friend had asthma all her life and in her later years found out that it was actually that she was allergic to certain foods like nuts and fruits , dust and pollen,

and now avoids these foods and is FINE no asthmatic attacks,

SECOND, ADHD,

MY child who is 11 years old now has ADHD

from the time he was 1.5 til he turned 4 he was NOT even human
-- People laugh when i say that but its true,
I felt like crying ALL the time, because i was exhausted,

I tried to talk to the doctor about medication for ME,
and my son, and he said : The best cure is MORE SLEEP for you,
and a more routine schedule for your son.

AND HE WAS RIGHT,

Children with ADHD have impulse control issues,
( which all children have just not as many)

A friend of mine HOMESCHOOLS her child, because it got bad for HER, HER CHILD, and her family,
( school children are horrible and teachers can't be bothered)

I DO NOT homeschool,
WHAT i do is limit the TV shows that he watches to POSITIVE babyish shows, that teach,

LIke Sprout TV, or PBS, DISNEY

( I encourage reading POETRY as this helps to build skills, they rhyme which helps them process it in their brain
and they are short, PRAYERS work aswell, ( I am a Bahai so we have special prayers fpr Children http://www.bahaiprayers.org/

They are short, have lots of big words so it expands vocabulary, and obviously virtuous.

Religious classes are great because the kids in them and their families are more tolerant, and kind , and accepting
Bahai's have childrens classes and VIRTUES classes which are free, and NON bahai's are welcome.

SWIMMING lessons are great because its a SOLO activity, teaches team work, and requires all their muscles and tires them out, PLUS its a year round activity.

BASKETBALL, SOCCER, Great because they are physical but HANDS OFF activities

--------

NOW here are a few more tips GIVE yourself some time OFF,
the best and cheapest way, is to get your kid involved in a SPORT and then let him be carpooled ( pay a mom to pick him up and drop him off at home MOST TIMES she will bring them to MC Donalds afterwards with that money)

YOUR asmatic CHILD I am POSITIVE its an ALLERGY to certain foods, PLEASE take him to be tested and then AVOID those foods, this will de stress your life, tremendously,

9 years old is a VERY hard age, but it will get better,
trust me, My son is 11 and he seems to be getting better,
BUT worse ( because of puberty and he is in JR HIGHSCHOOL THIS YEAR)

I just make sure i fight with his teachers at school via email, monitor homework, reward him with sneakers when he is GOOD , Assign him chores at home such as garbage, unload and load up the dishwasher, and cleaning up his room and his brothers rooms.

Weekends are packed with Activities, Swimming and basketball,
and BAHAI School,

Its Exhausting but it actually helps, keeps them busy and teaches them skills,

NO video games, or very limited,
( these are jam packed with negativity)

plenty of hugs and kisses,

We play card games while watching TV, ( RUMMY 500)
it helps them concentrate, count Ect...

And make sure to put that extra energy to use, by asking for JUICE, get juice for your brothers, MAKE DINNER ( dip the chicken in the egg, and them the bread crumbs)

Clean up the house for money ( 2 dollars an hour or 1 dollar per chore)

Email me if you want to talk,

M

PS forgot to mention 8:30 in BED and program the TV to turn off at 9:15 pm ITs great way to get a ADHD kid to relax in bed ALONE plus again its structure which works really well for kids like ours,

K. - Hang in there. I know easy for someone else to say but know that here is where you can vent and lean and we'll be here for you.

I have a quote that I refer to in hard times I hope it helps a little (if nothing more than to put a smile on your face) "I know God won't give me anything I can't handle...I just wish he didn't trust me so much" ~ Mother Theresa.

K.,
My heart goes out to you. Stay strong yor children need their Mommy!!!!
I have had asthma since childhhos, I have been on every medication known to man. I have suffered all the side effects it is horrible. I finally found the answer....I went for accupuncture and am now on NO MEDICATIONS at all!! I had decided to try it just to see and am amazed to be able to breathe properly for the first time since I can remember. Accupuncture has also been know to help with both ADHD and Touretts. It's non invasive, almost completely painless and certainly worth a try!!!
Make sure you research the person. I use someone who is a chiropractor/ accupuncture/ RN. She has a wealth of knowledge. If you are in western Suffolk County in NY I am happy to get her info to you!
Good luck!

Your in luck I see you live nearby...I live in the city of Poughkeepsie. I was struck by your comment on needing God more than ever. There isn't much He'd rather here. I go to a Christian Non-denomitnational church (which means we don't get caught up in all that "our way is the only way" nonsence) in the lagrange/Poughkeepsie area here is the address and phone number. You will be in my prayers and i'd love to here from you periodically on how things are going. If you do decide to check our church out, let me know. God loves you and he has a purpose for all things,
sometimes it takes a lifetime to see his plan.I'd don't know how i'd survive without my faith. Contact me anytime. God bless you and your family.

i don't know much about your faith...i.e. what you believe, but seeing as how you say you need God more than ever, then i suggest that you pray and ask God for his help and guidance. while you are praying though, seek out family or friends who would be willing to help you...you didn't mention the father..is he around? i am sure that your boys are wonderful, and as a mom you need a break. sometimes the best children can wear on your last nerve. if friends and family aren't available, then i would suggest you ask your pediatrician for names of support groups where you can take your 9 year old, and groups where you can talk to other parents of children with severe asthma. although it might not seem like it now, things WILL work out for you and your family. i will keep you in my prayers.
