SuperBowl is coming up and my daughters and I are excited about watching it. This year my husband is away for an extended timeframe and will not be able to spend that time with us. Therefore, I want to make this special occasion a fond memory. But I also want to keep it healthy. Does anyone have some good, healthy "SuperBowl" meals, snack, etc. they would like to share with me?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you, everyone for your yummy snack ideas. Our SupperBowl celebrations was hit. But not only did we share the SupperBowl. Last Week my girls and I planned our menu. Then friday night after work we went to dinner (so we wouldn't go shopping while we were hungry) and then went to the grocery store to pick up the items needed to make our SupperBowl snacks. Sunday we had a wonderful time eating yummy, healthy snacks and watched the game. It was a good one too. I hope you all you also had a great Sunday. Thanks again!

C.,
What a good idea! I am having my first girl on Monday and am looking forward to all that exciting bonding stuff that only girls can really get excited about!! I am sorry I dont have any new ideas for you but at our house the old stand bys work best. Salami and cheese (Muenster is our fav.) with sliced apples and sometimes Pears. An assortment of veggies: Carrots, radishes, cherry tomatos, cauliflower, etc for ranch dip. My personal favorite is sliced yellow and orange bell peppers with a sprinkling of Rice Wine vinegar,YUM! We also put out crackers and cubed french bread with Olive oil for dipping! Garlic olive oil is the bomb if you can find an inexpensive bottle!! I am lucky all my boys LOVE veggies and we as a family love to put it out and just munch all day! Have fun!

What about toasted or untoasted whole wheat pita pocket wedges and hummus? We love the hummus from Haggen.

Hi C.,

I've noticed that Costco, as well as Huckleberries at Rosaurs is carrying a lot of multi-grain snacks, which pose a nice substitute for regular chips. The sweet chili brown rice chips at Costo are my personal favorite. I'm a bit of a health nut, and I like to serve a relish tray with ranch, or blend some tropical fruit along with some Hawaii's Own fruit juice concentrate (guava, passion fruit, pineapple - fun options) in the blender for some fun drinks. These are great with a splash of ginger ale.
Another yummy option is nachos in the oven - try fewer chips and cheese, and add refried beans, fresh tomatoes, etc. When they come out of oven (375 until everything's nice and melted), add avacado, green onions, salsa, lettuce, whatever, for lots of veggies, etc. Have a great time!

My family has enjoyed making tacos with all of the fixings for foot ball parties. I make sure every thing is ready before hand and in the fridge or on the table. We have chips and dips (salsa etc.) out during the game then at half time everyone makes their own tacos. You can also add non-alcoholic daiquiris or pina coladas (I buy the frozen mix in the juice section of the grocery story).

Sounds like you've gotten lots of good ideas already. I'm on a "lifestyle change" aka diet so I'm becoming more aware of hidden high calorie foods. So I just wanted to caution you about ranch dip or any creamy dressings for that matter. Regular ranch has about 200 calories for 2 tbs. It is easy to exceed 2 tbs so you can see where that can really add up. Look for a low fat substitute or even fat free sour cream with the ranch powder put in. BTW I'm using Sparkpeople.com to facilitate my lifestyle change if you're interested. It is free and my username is wagysgirl

Hi C., a couple good snacks that both my daughter and I love are honey wheat pretzels from Trader Joes with Olive Hummus. We also like Avocado, tomatoes and goat cheese on endive lettuce, or pears and pepperjack cheese. They are all quick and healthy snacks. Hope you have fun!
