Red haired, freckled mama here.

I KNOW I should wear sunscreen but I hate it. It makes my skin feel like it can't breathe. So does anyone have suggestions for sunscreen that are not so heavy/greasy/sticky?

What can I do next?

I use Arizona Sun sunscreen - the "just for kids" kind. You can google it. I LOVE their products. The sunscreen is not at all greasy and it smells really good! I'm really sensitive to scents so that's important to me. They have a lotion and a spray and both are really good.

Look at Whole Foods, if you have them. I buy sunscreen there that is SPF 50 and in a spray (pump) bottle. It smells wonderful and is not sticky at all. In fact, when we go to softball games all the other parents always want to borrow mine because everyone loves it. Of course, it costs like $15 a bottle, so I don't want to share!! :-)

Ok- just saw it in the car and it's called Kiss My Face (brand).

I like the neutrogena line.

And please, please, please, wear sunscreen, any sunscreen, even if it's sticky or greasy.

Direct exposure is soooo dangerous!

I found that BananaBoat spray goes on very finely and doesn't leave that feeling. We use the kids version.....

I use an Oil Free Coppertone with zinc on my face, neck and chest.

Other than that, I use a basic lotion or something with a good SPF.

I am of Native American heritage so I tan well and have never burned but I am still faithful with my sunscreen.

I also have red hair & freckles and I can't express enough how important it is to wear sunscreen- especially for us!!! We're more suseptible to getting skin cancer, so you should wear it whenever you'll be out for more than 5 min. I use Neutogena sunscreen that's just for faces. I think it's a spf 70, so it lasts a lot longer. It works nice as a moisturizer too. It's sold at costco too, so you can get it for a fair price. Plus if you wear make-up, get ones that have a spf in it too.

I like Banana Boat. I don't think it is greasy. But I do not like the sport sunscreens. Those just feel nasty. My kids have gotten rashes from those. I have also used the Coppertone Waterbabies. I tried a different one last year that someone here recommended and I thought it was just nasty. I could feel it--but do not remember the name. It cost $4 more though.

My friend sells Ronan & Fields. I was realy surprised by how great it feels. It doesn't feel greasy and is much better than anything else I've tried. The Aveeno felt harsh on my screen. It felt like it burned when it went on my face. The R&F is pricey though $80. Let me know if you are interested.

For your face, get a moisturizer that has at least SPF 20 and then wear a hat. That's what I do (pale blond mama here). I use Philosophy's Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer - 3 steps in 1! - moisturizer, enough of a tint to even out my skin tone, and SPF20. Perfect!

For the rest of me, I get the spray-on type sunscreen in SPF 50. I like Coppertone Kids, but honestly, whatever's on sale works for me. Bottom line, you spray it on and forget about it. You don't need to rub it in or anything. It's not sticky feeling that I have ever noticed, and since it's so easy to put on (literally 10 seconds for your whole body, and you're good to go), I find that it's not a big deal and I'm more likely to wear it.

I just found the best one and it is so thin but still works!! It is by Loreal and is called Sublime Sun. It is so thin and sheer that I can SLATHER it on and I don't get that feeling! It is spf 50. I got it at Target for 9 bucks. Everything in the world makes me break out and this does not. I have been using it for a month and love it. You should def go get it. :)

I am also a red headed freckled mama! I HAVE to wear sunscreen or I pay the price for sure...even 20 min and I am a nice shade of pink : ) My complaint is they dont smell good and they make my face feel like I have a sticky mask on. I always wanted sun-tan oil coconut smelling sunscreen...and guess what? They FINALLY have it...yay! Its from Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Sunblock Lotion, SPF 50 and smells wonderful. Here are the reviews from on line:
Pros: Rubs in well, Effective protection, UVA/UVB protection, Non-comedogenic, Not greasy
Cons: none

And I recently went to the dermatologist for a once-over and she BEGGED me to wear sunscreen EVERYDAY. I wear Mary Kay everyday on my face ...spf 25 and it feels like lotion, not greasy etc. I dont like when you can feel it either. But for my body (only when I am "in the sun") I use this Hawaiin Tropics stuff, I LOVE it! The doctor told me that in order to be effective, the sunscreen had to contain this certian ingredient, which both of these do. Good luck!

Neutrogena has a non greasy line that is meant for faces. It feels nice in my opinion.

Good luck to you and yours,

I use Mary Kay's timewise facial lotion and it has spf 25 in it. It's not greasy at all.
