I need to find a sunscreen that will not harm skin for my 15 y/o daughter. She just recently received 2nd degree burns on face from the sun. We were unaware that her meds. caused a sun sensitivity. She is allergic to aloe vera. I would like to get something for her that doesn't have all the cancer causing chemicals in it. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you in advance!

What can I do next?

Badger Sunscreen is great!. You can type in sunscreens in the cosmetic database, to determine safety. Incidentally, Aveeno scores a 7. I'd stay away from that.

ELTA MD!!!! It is amazing!!! It is not sold in stores such as Walmart, etc. It is usually found in physician's offices, etc. Don't let that scare you. The price is very affordable. My plastic surgeon recommended it three years ago and since then, I have 6 friends who have switched to it and love it as much as I do. I use the SPF 46 Daily Moisturizer. One application (with my skin type) will last me almost an entire day at the lake (no exaggeration). You can research it at www.eltamd.com, but you can usually find it on sale at websites such as www.askderm.com.

It is such a user friendly product, I think almost anyone could use it.

Burt's Bees makes one that is an spf 30 that is awesome.
I would also enlist a floppy hat for the summer if she has an added sensitivity to sun.

Burt's Bee's has no chemicals but a thick consistency. It works fine for faces but is hard to do large areas. My friend with a very pale coloring likes Blue Lizard for her and her daughter. She ordered it online but you can sometimes find it in stores. It's made in Australia where they are serious about sun protection. A hat is a good thing to have as well. You can also find some high SPF clothing but it is likely to be expensive. You could try a place that sells outdoor and camping gear.

Badger Sunscreen! Very good. We got our first one from diapers.com but Whole Foods in Arlington sells it now. Very thick and works wonderfully.

Aveeno has really good products as well as the others mentioned ... Arbonne has a lotion that helps with sunburn healing too, forget what it is called but my sister swears by it.

I would look into Arbonne sunscreen.

Or, Burt's Bees.

Look at the skin deep website by the EWG. They rate all kinds of health and beauty products (including sunscreen) based on what ingredients they use. I have gotten rid of a bunch of products I thought were good based on the info from that site.

the dermatoglist I went too, recommend blue lizard, and baby blue lizard it has high amounts of zinc oxide which is the best in sunscreen. It is hard to find, but worth it.

Please look at my post from last summer on this issue. I did a ton of research on sunscreens that would be safe for kids (or anyone for that matter)...

Check out the SWH section... I actually came up with a good, easy to come by solution that is NOT overpriced, and it is readily available. Coppertone came out with a new line of products last year called PURE AND SIMPLE. It contains NONE of the culprit cancer causing agents... you can check out the post, and the like to the Coppertone... it's what we all use now.
